Photos of yourself? We all need pics of ourselves nowadays don’t we? For years that has meant getting a new headshot every 3-5 years. In this pic below, I was photographed at the InBound conference In Boston by a LinkedIn photographer at their booth a few years ago. I was a speaker and had a blast. How often do you get a new headshot? And what about getting personal branding photos made for yourself to use on a website and social? Do you like being photographed? I am a big believer that a professional photographer is worth every penny and that we need to get new photos regularly I write about this - along with many other topics- in my book “LinkedIn for Personal Branding” which I hope you will check out. But in the meantime let me know about YOUR pics. #personalbranding #linkedin #photographer #SandraLong

It's always awkward to have my photo taken, but a good photographer puts you at ease. And I agree - it's more important to LOOK CURRENT than it is to avoid the discomfort and cost of getting a new, professional headshot.

Good pics that reflect your best self are very important. Good to have 2-3 variations so you have the right image to align with the content it accompanies.

Sandra Long you hit home on this post, one of the most important aspects of a LinkedIn Profile. We live in a visual society. Your portrait should exude confidence, approachability, and friendliness. A 'good' photographer knows how to get that feeling out of you. Notice I say good, not professional. Yet is a two way street, it is a collaboration between you and the photographer. You need to feel relaxed during your photo session. But you need to let the photographer help you get the most out of it. Here are my top 4 LinkedIn posts that can help you with your portrait photo sessions. Yep, I have to agree but having them taken by Bridget Corke is always so much fun plus she is one of only two master photographers in Africa

As a photographer that doesn’t like to be photographed… lol! I use an Emoji as my LinkedIn profile pic. I definitely belong behind the camera! Maybe one day I’ll change that but my beautiful wife takes so many photos of the two of us and I’m so uncomfortable that I have to do something funny in each of them! I should do some self portraits, after all I’m always giving instructions to models and business clients that I’ve become such a good actor I should be able to pull it off….

An important topic and I’m due for a new one, Sandra! Headshots/professional photos help convey our brand. Yes, they matter, for all professionals, including leaders who are in or considering a major career transition. Thanks for posting - and for all the actionable wisdom your book, “LinkedIn for Personal Branding”, provides. Highly recommend!
