MY REVIEW

This is an (8) session Bible study where you can explore how God‘s power is available to all of us today. Each session includes a scripture passage, journaling questions, additional old testament reading, and personal applications.

I love that this can be done as a small group study or individually. I did this study individually and used a journal to answer the reading questions and ponder on the different chapters of Ephesians. I learned different things from studying Ephesians more in depth and found this study easy to understand and apply.

This was my first study guide with this author and I really enjoyed it so I will be looking up more to do in the future.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

More from Sarah

Years ago, I was travelling a bit before starting a new teaching job. I found myself thinking that it would be neat to visit a few places of the Bible and soon made plans and set off for Turkey. One of my stops was Ephesus; the thought that I was walking in the same place as Paul and his disciples was pretty amazing. I saw the library (now open-air) and the place where the temple of Diana had been.

Having visited and then reflected on the visit while studying the Bible, I realized that the ruins of the port town of Ephesus were a living monument to the difficult living conditions of the believers in Paul’s time. There was much remaining of the Ephesian pagan world, of a time when Christians were a fledgling group that needed the encouragement that Paul offered.

Still today, looking around me it is easy to think that we are still a fledgling group of Christians that need Paul’s encouragement. Division and favoritism are still prevalent today and we are surrounded by nonbelievers. But Paul offered words of wisdom that are still relevant to us today.

You may not visit Turkey soon, but you can connect with the people of the land through Paul’s letter to the Ephesians. We can walk a mile in their shoes as we study the encouragement of Paul and experience the power of Christ in our own lives.

Rescued Duty (Last Chance Fire and Rescue Book 5) by Lisa Phillips & Laura Conaway

This story had great characters and non stop action and drama. This clean Christian fiction is book 5 in the Last Chance Fire and Rescue series but they can all be read as stand alone books. Naya and Zack are reunited in their hometown when their different jobs seem to hold a common denominator. Both are determined to find out the truth regardless of how much danger comes their way or threats made on their lives. They use their faith and each other to help them get thru. I really liked the main characters and Zack’s firefighter friends. They all showed loyalty and bravery in the face of danger and death.
This story had a suspenseful plot that kept me engaged from beginning to end. I really enjoyed reading this book and highly recommend it!

ABOUT THE BOOK:
After growing up in foster care, investigative reporter Naya Michél has learned there’s usually more to a situation than meets the eye. When she’s assigned a story about the current water contamination crisis in town, Naya is ready to show her boss she has what it takes to secure a promotion—especially since the events surrounding the story have personal ties to her childhood. When her investigation makes her the target of someone who wants the truth kept quiet, how far will Naya’s determination take her before the cost becomes too much?

Rescue Squad firefighter and former foster kid Zack Stephens is ready to step up his game at work when his boss hands him a cold case for hazmat training. As Zack delves into the case, he uncovers a shocking revelation—his parents’ deaths weren’t accidental. Determined to find their murderer, Zack throws himself into the investigation. But he doesn’t expect his search to collide with Naya, the girl he promised to protect when they lived in foster care together.

As threats mount and Naya is caught in the crosshairs, can Zack reconcile the mistakes of his past and find a killer before someone deals a lethal blow? And can the two of them learn to trust—and love—each other again despite the pain of their past?

MY REVIEW

This Christian fiction book follows the story of 3 Amish sisters and their father Abram. Tabitha leaves the Amish faith and community to get married, becomes a vet, but then returns home after her divorce. Rose is married and lives close by the family farm but is having a hard time adjusting to her marriage after only two years. Amanda cooks, cleans and looks after this father and is considered old in her late 20’s by not being married.

I liked the different Amish and English perspectives of the sisters on different topics like marriage, dating, communicating and every day life. I also liked reading Tabitha’s and Amanda’s experiences with providing medical care to the local animals and Tabitha trying to make a name for herself again in the Amish community where she grew up.

Relationships and friendships are introduced in this story and I wish all three girls received a “happily ever after” story to their lives because they all deserved it. I hope we will hear more about the sisters in future Amish of Shepherd’s Hill books.

This story addresses hard things that unfortunately also happen in an Amish community like addictions, abuse, marriage problems, etc. I liked how the characters made these situations relatable and how God can help strengthen and direct his children.

I really enjoyed this sweet family Amish book about love, faith and second chances. I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

“Shattered Sanctuary” by Nancy Mehl

Shattered Sanctuary is book one in the new Erin Delaney Mysteries. This book had an interesting plot and characters with several twists that kept me guessing and wondering what would happen next. Although the book wasn’t for me, I finished it because I had to find out what was going to happen and how it would end. There wasn’t anything graphic but the horror/serial killer content creeped me out and was too much for me; so I don’t plan on reading any more books in this series. I did like that the characters talked about God and how they used him as their strength and for guidance.

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Grappling with the aftermath of a tragic incident that altered her life, ex-police officer and bestselling mystery author Erin Delaney finds solace in the tranquility of a cabin nestled deep in the Smoky Mountains. But her restful stay is shattered when cries pierce the night, hinting at a lurking presence haunting the woods. When local police chief Adrian Nightengale seeks her help with a carefully arranged murder scene, she is thrust back into the world of crime solving. As they delve into the investigation, Erin’s intuition reveals chilling truths about the killer’s motives and strategically perfected methods.

Joined by the enigmatic Kaely Quinn-Hunter, a former FBI behavioral analyst, Erin not only embarks on a quest to stop the merciless serial killer, but also confronts the revived ghosts of her past. In a race against time, Erin must defeat her own demons while outmaneuvering a cunning killer or risk becoming the next victim in this deadly game of cat and mouse.

“Serial Burn” by Lynette Eason

Jessilyn who is the fire marshal of Lake City is determined to find the arsonist who killed her family. After appearing on TV at the 20th year anniversary of her family‘s death, she pleads with someone to come forward with information about the arsonist, promising that person will be brought to justice. That interview then begins a chain of events like multiple fires being started all around town and Jessilyn being targeted and running for her life-which leaves her with even more questions. FBI special agent Nathan is called in to help the local fire department and to get to the bottom of who is targeting the town and Jessilyn. As they both dig deeper into files and follow leads; Jessilyn quickly learns that sometimes digging into the past has a way of changing the future.

This was an on-the-edge of your seat, lots of drama and twists, Christian fiction book with some light romance. I absolutely loved this book and highly recommend this series!

I voluntarily reviewed a complimentary copy of this book. All opinions and views expressed are my own.

ABOUT THE BOOK:
Now the fire marshal of Lake City, Jesslyn McCormick is determined to find the person who started the fire that robbed her of her family when she was just seven years old. As the twentieth anniversary of the tragedy approaches, a string of fires–including at Jesslyn’s church–brings up all those old feelings and offers new evidence.

Because church fires are considered a hate crime, FBI Special Agent Nathan Carlisle is called in to work with local law enforcement. Nathan has his own past–one he’d prefer not to revisit. And focusing on helping Jesslyn track down the arsonist is a great distraction.

As both the case and the chemistry between Jesslyn and Nathan heat up, memories will come flooding in from the past to bump up against hopes for the future. And when Jesslyn comes face-to-face with her worst nightmare, she’ll have to confront her fears and rely on Nathan and her community of friends in order to survive.
