Monitor Individual Circuits without the GuessworkAdd individual 50A sensors to your Vue to monitor up to 16 individual circuits — providing accurate energy use for the appliances and equipment that is important to you. No guesswork. No trying to discern energy signals from background noise. Just simple, easy, and accurate insight into your home. 50A sensors are sold separately and also sold in bundles with the Vue. |
Measure Solar Net Metering without Extra HardwareSolar net metering is built right into the Emporia Vue. The simple Emporia iOS and Android app will show when and how much electricity you are consuming and when and how much excess energy you are producing back to the grid — giving you keen insight into the impact of your solar panels as they relate to your energy use. |
Installs in the Electrical Circuit Panel of your HomeThe Gen 2 Vue installs in your home's electrical panel using CT sensor clamps that go around your mains and the other circuits you wish to monitor. DIY instructions included, but a professional electrician is recommended. The Vue system is designed for field installation in a switch enclosure as per 312.8(B) of the 2017 NEC regarding Power Monitoring Equipment. |
Do You have Metal Bus Bar Mains in Your Panel?
Our Flexible Current Sensor solution is now available on the EmporiaEnergy website. These current sensors are meant to replace the 200A main sensors that ship with Gen 2 Vues. They employ a bendable Rogowski coil with a 1.4” (36mm) opening that can fit around most bus bars or into tight spaces where a standard current sensors clamp cannot fit. Installing the Flexible Current Sensors is still dangerous, and Emporia highly recommends that installation be performed by a licensed electrician or other qualified professional.
Add Emporia Smart Plugs to Your Vue
Emporia Smart Plugs (sold separately) can be added to your Vue system to help you to not only monitor the energy of lighting and small appliances, but to also set timers, schedules, and turn them on and off from anywhere, any time with the Emporia app.

There was a problem filtering reviews right now. Please try again later.
This is an excellent product and quite affordable (Vue Gen2, with 8 sensors in addition to the main two that come by default).
The manual at the website is quite detailed, and covers several faqs. The installation was fairly easy after reading the manual several times, and being very careful during installation.
There are two wires for sensing the two main busbar voltages for proper watt calculations. The application will let you know If the two wires are connected to the same busbar, and will give you the chance to correct and connect them to separate busbars; quite convenient, and this gives you the confidence that the equipment is indeed reading the voltage for watt calculations, and not using any estimated values.
Connecting to the cloud might take a while, especially if there is something wrong with the router. In my case, the system did not connect to the cloud initially, and we got concerned about that; but the system connected to the cloud immediately when using the phone hotspot. So, the problem was really the router. After trying reconfiguring the router for a very long time, we finally factory reset the router and worked immediately.
The cloud has been working flawlessly since the installation on late September (it's now early November, 2021). Please bear in mind two important things: the one-second data does not storage for a long time, and the exported data from the cloud to csv format shall be downloaded shortly or it will not be available after a while. This second condition is not critical for long available data, but it is for short term data (seconds and minutes).
After having everything up and running (we changed the sensors and circuit configurations a few times to get the most out of the system) the information provided is quite useful, as you will know the consumption of almost all your equipments (or group of equipments, depending on the configuration) with a very high degree of accuracy.
Storaged information is only available in watts, but current (Amps) is available at the moment, and for quite a long time, depending on the time step.
Graphics are quite useful, as they provide a lot of information at different time steps and for each and every circuit, and also in Amps or watts.
This system exceeded our expectations by far, after getting it properly installed and configured.
For knowing your consumption with high degree of details and accuracy, this is the right equipment, both on features and on price.
Don't wait any more, don't think any more, just get it; you won't regret.
Best regards,
I like it so much I bought a second one for Mom's home - which is where things went wrong (but appears that this may be due to someone buying a Gen2 and doing a return putting their old original first-generation Vue in the new box and then Amazon sending it to me as 'new'.)
For the real product that I did get earlier (direct from Emporia) -
Packaging: Wow - it's beautiful.
Documentation: Clear and concise.
Android app: Very good (I'd like to see some tweaks here and there, but it works and gives you access to all the usage details.)
Installation: I respect electricity and don't like getting shocked! But, it really wasn't difficult to safely install on live panel. I took my time and was careful.
Support: Accessible and responsive - both phone and email.
Price: Good!
What more could you ask for?
I've always wanted to know how much electricity things were using and have a Kill-A-Watt which works well for things that plug in. But, what about things like lights on switches, heat pumps, cooktops, etc? This device will let you see your total usage on everything, and up to 16 different individual circuits. And since the app shows usage on the whole home and any individual circuit in real time 1-second intervals, it's quite easy to see electric usage even on circuits that power multiple things. For example, a typical breaker may shut off power to all the lights in one or more rooms. Either have all the lights off and turn just the one you want to check on - or, if other lights on circuit are also on, just use the difference between the usage on that circuit from the amount with and without the light you want to measure being 'on'. Same technique can be used for receptacle circuits.
With the Emporia Vue I was able to see: my modern washing machine draws about 6 watts constantly when it's 'Off'. Oral-B toothbrush chargers draw more than 5 watts constantly if plugged in, with or without a toothbrush on the charger - there's basically no difference if you charge a toothbrush or not. My central A/C draws 10 watts less when my smart Sensi thermostat has it 'off' than when it's in 'cool' but not running. These are all little things, but they add up on things that run 24x7. Reduce 24x7 demand by 100 watts, and that's 72kWh per month. In Hawaii at about 25 cents per kWh, that's $18/month!
The Vue will also give you insight into the big things as well - the usage of electric water heater, clothes dryer, cooktop, oven, etc.
I'm glad I bought this, and I'm also glad to see some delays in availability - demand for the product is picking up as more people realize what this can do for their energy awareness/conservation, and hopefully allows Emporia to be successful and continue to offer this at a reasonable price! (It does require Internet/cloud to work and continue working.)
The real-time electricity usage display is a standout feature. It's fascinating to see how different appliances and activities impact my electricity consumption. This monitor has been instrumental in identifying unnecessary energy wastage in my home. By pinpointing these areas, I've been able to make more energy-efficient choices, which I anticipate will reflect positively on my electricity bills.
One of the most helpful aspects is the ability to track usage over time. The monitor provides a clear, comprehensive view of my electricity consumption patterns. This data is invaluable for making informed decisions about energy use and has helped me understand my household's energy habits better.
However, there's one feature that could take this monitor from great to perfect: an API for web integration. If I could access my electricity usage data through a website, it would enhance the usability and accessibility of the information. This addition would allow for more detailed analysis and the possibility of integrating the data with other smart home systems.
In conclusion, I'm very satisfied with this electricity monitor. It's easy to install, simple to use, and provides crucial insights into electricity usage. I highly recommend it to anyone looking to gain a better understanding of their energy consumption and looking to make more environmentally friendly and cost-effective choices. A web API in future models would make it an unbeatable product in its category.
Top reviews from other countries
- Very easy to install, see Pics
- Solid WiFi connection
- Good instructions
- App is very responsive, no failures or glitches
- Almost real-time, very impressive
- Flawless CSV downloads
- Alerts work well
Actual benefits;
- able to identify a total of 142W of phantom load = ~$180 CAD/yr for a payback of ~1.5 years
- able to quantify the max hot tub load @ -22C (1,225W) and move the deicing cable from a lighting circuit to the dedicated 120V hot tub circuit, so now it is monitored
- able to demonstrate that our new hyper-efficient gas furnace is consuming an average 62W more than the previous unit, so I have engaged the vendor to determine why
- identified the the top consumers, not sure what I can do about it yet, but at least I know now
Couple of points;
- will need to use 2 CTs on 240V circuits for accurate measurement, e.g. a dryer motor only uses one of the phases, so if you use one CT and double the multiplier the results will be inaccurate. I moved a CT so now both phases are monitored
- I had to mount the unit inside the panel to reach the mains. Two 16 sensor units would not fit inside a typical fully loaded panel, however I could mount them externally by using one unit on the left side and one on the right side. I have 42 active circuits but only 15 are monitored so another unit would significantly reduce if not eliminate the balance of 31%
- I spent an entire day tracing all the circuits so I knew where to best allocate the 16 CTs, and I now have a detailed map
- I download a CSVs weekly and archive them as they are very small ZIP files
- I look forward to future App/backend enhancements
WELL DONE Emporia!!
Update 2022-11-27 - It's been about ~11 months now and this product has worked flawlessly, this has got to be one of the best products I've ever purchased. I expected some glitches and idiosyncrasies but to my surprise, it always works, it is fun to use and quite informative. For example, I didn't expect that our hot tub is by far the largest individual consumer @ ~14% after 11 months or ~$215 CAD/yr and we only use it during the summer although it runs all year. That is really surprising given that it is a small tub connected to a 120V circuit. The "Balance" @ ~22% includes all devices on all circuits that are not monitored.

Pro:
