What would you do for a Bezos Bod?

Cathy was aghast as the Amazon delivery truck pulled up in front of her house.

“Where’d you like us to put this, ma’am,” asked the driver politely.

She stared at the cardboard tower sitting in her driveway, the size of a jumbo refrigerator.

In a semi-daze, she pointed towards the open garage. She thought he’d move the box, then be on his merry way.

But the driver went back into the truck and unloaded two long boxes, the length of car axles.

And there was more.

Next came two “regular” sized square shaped Amazon boxes. Considerate as she was, Cathy offered to pick those up herself.

“Oh no ma’am. Let me get it. You’ll throw your back out. Even on that little fella,” the driver said.

Unaccustomed to taking no for an answer, she bent over. And boy was he right.

The box was completely unmovable.

Cathy was used to Tim’s impulsive mid-life-crisis-purchases, but the sheer magnitude of this one was next level.

“What’s in here?” she asked the driver inquisitively.

“Oh, you’re not the one trying to get buff, ma’am? It’s a squat rack, barbells and a full collection of weight lifting plates,” he responded. “Someone’s got some serious New Year’s resolutions.”

“TIIIIIIMMMMMMMMM, get down here right now!”

Tim sauntered down, still in his Wolverine pajama pants and collared shirt (his classic Zoom attire) and smiled ear-to-ear when he saw the tower of cardboard boxes.

“What on earth is this? You know we don’t have room for this,” she chastised him.

“Oh, sweetheart. Thanks for letting them in. You’re going to love our new home gym. It will even make a CrossFitter jealous,” retorted Tim.

“But we already have the Peloton, Mirror, TRX and rower. And who even does CrossFit anymore?!”

“I know. I’ll sell some of those on OfferUp. But this… this set up is going to be the key. The key to my Bezos Bod!”

“What... on... earth…. is a Bezos Bod?” Then she caught a glimpse of a montage on the wall.

A printout that told her everything she needed to know:

Tina never understood the manufactured brouhaha around New Year’s resolutions.

“What, you just pick an arbitrary date and reset all the things you say are important to you?”

Don’t get her wrong, she was all for clean slates, but it was the arbitrary nature of resolutions that rankled her.

(Not to mention that everyone — literally everyone — dropped their resolutions by February.)

To Tina (who runs sales at a small design agency), resolutions were just a bunch of performative virtue signaling and blog posts that amounted to pretty much nothing.

But that didn’t mean that Tina (who we’ll now call $10K Tina) entered the new year without a plan.

$10K Tina loves to play the long game.

Her friends revel at her ability to not get caught up in fads, hacks and flavor-of-the-month productivity tricks.

Yet there was one thing Tina loved about the new year. It was the ultimate cue.

It was her “cue” (yup, Atomic Habits-style) to review all the different categories of her life and reset her priorities.

Said differently, it was her annual check-in on the proverbial important, but not urgent — but with a twist. While others paid lip service to things like “getting good sleep” or “being a good spouse,” $10K Tina was committed to putting as many of these parts of her life on auto-pilot.

This process encompassed $10K Tina’s relationships, finances, health and spiritual growth.

These are the categories that are so so easy to say “Eh, this can wait until tomorrow” only to watch them snap back and slap you in the face.

She had experienced this “snooze” effect with her health three years ago when she was gunning hard for that Head of Sales promotion. As someone who used to pride herself on taking redeyes, forcing herself to read for 45 minutes before bed (inspired by Bill Gates) and never missing an early morning work out — the lack of sleep started to show up in the form of high blood pressure and early signs of Type 2 diabetes.

Her doctor had warned her that while she could take pills to counter these effects of aging, they’d be for life. Stress-management (and sleep in particular) gave her a shot at pre-emptively avoiding the medications.

So the consequences of ignoring the important, not urgent was not only real to her — it was measurable with her health metrics.

Tina sat down and pulled out her Annual Review checklist:

Tim cancelled one of his 1:1s (“Sorry, feeling like I may have Omicron… going to take it easy”) to set up his Squat Rack. Tim (who we’ll now call $10 Tim) is a 41 year old Director at an accounting firm.

As he sifted through screws, wrenches and metal wafers — another delivery showed up. This time it was from Butcher Box, an online grass-fed meat delivery subscription service.

With the “unboxing” enthusiasm of a YouTuber, he inspected the box’s contents.

He pulled out an 8 pack of Bison Burgers.

12 links of lamb sausage.

3 flash frozen salmon steaks, pink like the corals of the Carribean.

And six 10 ounce Rib Eyes.

$10 Tim's Bezos Bod regimen would include the “Carnivore Diet.” He’d heard Joe Rogan talk to some MMA fighter about how they got ripped by “only eating foods that walk, swam or fly.”

Yup. A good, old fashioned almond would not make the cut.

Cathy came down again and was distraught when she saw even more boxes.

“You ready to be my Carnie Baby?” his voice exuding faux-confidence.

Her blank expression, convinced $10 Tim that he needed to explain.

“Here’s the deal,” he clarified. “Everyone on the Internet thinks that Bezos is using HGH. But he’s not. Reddit thinks that the Carnivore Diet is what gave him the Bezos Bod. It’s similar to when Mark Zuckerberg only ate things he could kill with a bow and arrow. Just without the bow and arrow.”

“But what about your cholesterol?” Cathy countered with a genuinely concerned look.

Ever since he turned 40, Tim’s body started to show some signs of wear-and-tear. Gone were the glory days of his thirties, when he could eat 40 wings, wash it down with a pitcher of Coors Light and feel fine the next morning.

Nope, instead he was on a daily cocktail of Lipitor, Propecia and Metformin.

“Reddit says that the Carnie Diet lowers the bad cholesterol and raises the good cholesterol,” he tried to reassure her.

Unconvinced (and a bit afraid), she left the garage.

“You haven’t even worked out since the pandemic began,” she muttered under her breath.

$10K Tina used her Annual Planning Process to preemptively protect her calendar and set up all of her non-negotiable time blocks.

In fact on her laptop she had taped this Ramit Sethi tweet:

$10K Tina was steadfast in protecting her one-on-one time with Owen and Chris. She didn't just say “she valued family” but she actually architected her life around valuing her family.

This meant that on Wednesdays (a day with a big childcare gap) she’d stop work at 1:30 PM and take Owen to the local rock climbing gym. After, they’d grab ramen next door to give Chris some time to work late or go for one of his long runs.

It also meant securing two babysitters (yup, you always need a backup) for Thursdays, when her and Chris would take a Hot Yoga class together, then grab their favorite Açaí bowls on the way home.

And it meant locking down 6 sessions of her bi-monthly coaching sessions, with her guru Grace. Although Grace was technically an executive coach, their sessions had been a godsend in curing some of Tina’s imposter syndrome, perfectionism and her inability to “turn her brain off.”

And while she was at it, she protected her sixty minutes of daily Thinking Time leaving her calendar looking like:

As she secured these dates, she made a promise to herself in her journal:

These are my non-negotiables. I will not skip, cancel or move any of these appointments unless one of my team members is unexpectedly sick or my family needs me to do something else.

“Daddy, you want to play family with me?”

Ellie strolled into the garage, with a train of stuffies following her.

There was a unicorn, Olaf, a frog and an owl.

“Sweetheart,” he whispered pointing to his AirPod, “Daddy’s actually on an important work call right now. I’m just in listen-only mode.”

(In fact, he was listening to episode 12 of the Carnivore Cast.)

“BUT YOU PROMISED,” she yelled. In a tone that didn’t match her 38 inch frame.

Sensing the disappointment, he bookmarked the Carnivore Cast and took out his AirPod. He was ready to play with the stuffies.

“Hey froggie,” he asked in his baby voice, “do you want to be strong like Jeff Bezos?”

“Eww dad, that’s creepy,” Ellie complained. “Froggie’s a frog. Frog’s just want to jump.”

“And who’s Jeff Bee-zos, anyway?" she added.

$10 Tim proudly pointed to the collage on his wall.

“You see, sweetheart - my New Year’s resolution is to get in shape like that guy,” Tim said. “Wouldn’t you be proud of me?”

“Umm no. He looks kinda weird. But you might as well shave your head since you’re going bald,” she quipped.

Even though she was 6, that set him off. Tim lost interest in playing family and tried to change the subject.

"Do you think froggie wants to do some squats with me?” he asked.

“NO!” yelled Ellie. “That’s super boring and you PROMISED me you would play family.”

Ellie collected her stuffies and turned to her dad exclaiming, “Your New Year’s resolution should be NOT BREAKING PROMISES TO A 6-YEAR OLD!”

And she stormed away.

"Show me someone's calendar and I'll show you their priorities."

Ain't that the truth.

But instead, you're bouncing from one Zoom to the next with barely a minute to catch your breath - let alone - reflect, digest, or prepare for what’s next.

Yet in your soul, you know there's a better way of showing up each day.

Imagine a world where you:

  • Get more done (by working smarter)
  • Think bigger (versus making smaller things better)
  • Stop putting things off until some imaginary future date
  • Invest in improving your mind, career and relationships

Supercharge Your Productivity is a live 4-week course that will help you re-architect the life of your dreams, while saving you time and growing your career.

And if you enroll by January 20th (Noon EST) you’ll receive our two most popular courses (a bonus valued at $498): The GTD Power-Pack and The Fulfilling Path to Financial Independence.

But don't just take it from us, here's what one of our student's spouses said about their husband taking the course:

Sid went from severe FOMO and a serious case of superhero complex trying to do all the things at the same intensity to being laser-focused on his why.
He let go of all the activities that aren’t immediately connected to his $10k questions and thus calmed down a lot.
I am fortunate that I and our kids are among the things that he focuses on and it’s a world of a difference.

The enrollment period closes at midnight (EST) on January 24th.

IF you have any questions, our team is here standing by.

With gratitude,

Khe and the SYP team
