Interior designer’s ‘untouched’ time capsule home from the 1950s is the ultimate blast from the past: ‘Precious’

A 25-year-old woman who lives in an “untouched” 1950s-era home has opened the doors to her historic space—while revealing why she chose to maintain the property’s original fixtures and appliances, rather than updating.

Abbey—who declined to share her last name for privacy reasons—is a North Carolina–based content creator and mom-to-be, who goes by @homeundertheoaks on TikTok, where she frequently shares tours of her cozy property, which was built over 70 years ago.

Although she works in business full time, her true passion lies in interior design, something that she has been able to throw herself into while restoring her picture-perfect home to its original glory.

In a recent video tour, Abbey—who lives in the home with her husband, their golden retriever, and their cat—joked that she lives in a property that is almost three times as old as her, while showcasing some of her favorite spaces and elements.

“Point of view: You’re 25 and you’re living in a 70-year-old home,” she wrote in the title, before explaining that she has attempted to keep much of the property as it was when she first moved in, save for adding even more elements that pay homage to its history.

The content creator started her tour in the cozy living room, which is outfitted with a large beige couch, a dark wooden coffee table, and a tan lamp from the 1950s.

The large windows are covered by floral white and tan curtains, letting just the right amount of light into the home.

She revealed that her property houses many lamps, many of which came with the home and match the original furniture.

The dining area features a dark wooden design, with a circular table and a chest of drawers occupying much of the space.

Behind the dining table is a white chest, which holds stunning antique plates and adds a charming vintage touch to the property.

The cute kitchen has a petite white and brown table with a slew of books and a lamp sitting on top of it.

One of the reasons, she says, is that many of the appliances in the house match the original furniture, along with the dining area having a unique design with drawers taking up most of the space. TikTok / @homeundertheoaks

In the kitchen, viewers are shown a stylish black and white tile backsplash and wooden cabinetry.

The space features another wooden table, this one topped with rainbow-colored place mats and featuring matching wood chairs with cream seat cushions.

The bathroom appears to be one of the most untouched areas of the property, boasting pink and green tiled walls and matching floors.

The shower also continues the pink and green theme.

Abbey’s rose-hued toilet and sink match perfectly and, according to the homeowner, have not been updated since long before she and her husband purchased the property.

In the clip showing her bathroom, she wrote: “Point of view: You’re pregnant with a girl and she’ll get to grow up with a 1950s pink bathroom.”

Meanwhile, the 25-year-old’s bedroom features oak wood flooring, a black wood bed, and a tan nightstand.

“I grew up watching HGTV with my mom, which is where my love for design came from. There is nothing I love more than antiquing with my mom and sister,” she explained. @homeundertheoaks/Tiktok

Behind the bed is a small window with gray curtains.

In another video, Abbey revealed that she had already converted one of the rooms into a nursery. It features light pink walls, a white crib, and a wooden chest.

There is also a small gold mirror and gold frames hanging on the walls.

In a follow-up clip, the 25-year-old explained how she came to have a passion for design and thrifting vintage goods.

“I grew up watching HGTV with my mom, which is where my love for design came from. There is nothing I love more than antiquing with my mom and sister,” she explained.

Viewers were impressed by her home and praised her talents while branding her property “cute,” “beautiful,” and “precious.”
