      This is a great kit for beginners who want to get into whittling or wood carving. It comes with everything you need to get started. It comes with knife, two blocks of wood of different hardnesses, leather strop, polishing compound, three different grits of sandpaper, cut resistant tape, bees wax, ruler, two stencil patterns and some bandaids. The directions that come with it are very basic. There is a QR code on the instructions that brings you to a little how to video that shows you the different knife cuts.

      What I didn’t like is there is nothing that tells you what species each block of wood is. After finding another how to video on YouTube posted by someone was I able to figure out that one block is basswood and the other is cherry. The lighter block is the basswood, which is the easier one to carve. That’s the practice block. The cherry is for the finished piece. The other thing I wish they had more info on was how to strop the knife blade. I had to look up more information on that as well. The booklet and online said to use the blue cut resistant tape but mine came with pink tape. Not a big deal but some people might get confused by that.

      Otherwise, this is a great way to get started in wood carving without having to buy a whole bunch of individual things. I am happy with the purchase and would definitely recommend it to someone wanting to get started in wood carving.

      This was a kit for carving a bird that I gave to my adult daughter for Christmas. She started it Christmas morning but was having a really hard time making any headway. She found an instructional video of the same kit on YouTube and started watching it to see what she might be doing wrong.
      When the YouTube guy started to carve it he did a double take and looked at the wood block provided. He said it was not softwood like the basswood that should have been provided but rather block of hardwood like maple. So my daughter swapped it for another block she had and proceeded to really enjoy the project. It was a nice kit to start a new hobby with.

      Es ist alles in der Packung drin, um den Vogel zu schnitzen. Die Anleitung ist gut und das Werkzeug und restliches Material von sehr guter Qualität. Das Holz ist weich, aber bekommt keine Dellen, wenn es mal runter fällt.
      In den ersten Schritten muss viel Material abgetragen werden. Wer nicht geübt ist, sollte mir Blasen in den Händen und Muskelkater in den Fingern rechnen.

La scatola contiene tutto l'occorrente, un coltellino affilato, il modello in carta da ritagliare e applicare sul legno con la colla vinilica, tutto il necessario per affilare la lama, qualche cerotto e della benda elastica da usare come salva dita (è molto più comoda dei guanti appositi che ho comunque comprato a parte dopo il primo taglio in un punto in cui la benda non può essere applicata), due blocchetti di legno (uno morbido e uno molto duro, di ciliegio), il necessario per la finitura, carta vetro di varia grana, la cera per il tocco finale, le istruzioni dettagliate. Devo dire che seguendo le istruzioni non ho avuto troppe difficoltà: a mio avviso la parte difficile è il becco (non spiega come fare e nemmeno il video che mettono a disposizione). Il problema importante è dato dalla durezza del legno. Credo per errore di aver iniziato dal ciliegio e stavo quasi per gettare la spugna perché le mani mi facevano male e il coltellino sembrava non scalfire il blocchetto...poi ho trovato un trucchetto su un forum. Il legno può essere istantaneamente ammorbidito utilizzando una soluzione di acqua e alcool al 50% questo facilita enormemente il lavoro.
