"Help, I don't understand the LinkedIn algorithm" 🤯 Yep, algorithms can feel overwhelming. But if we make them work for us, we can see incredible results! Just save this image and refer to it frequently, especially just before you post. Thank you Richard van der Blom, Just Connecting - LinkedIn & Social Selling Training HUB and Katrin Wietek for the amazing infographic! EDIT: Richard, the author of the study, recently shared great news; editing your post after publishing is no longer penalized 🥳 but he also recommends not editing a post more than twice. Julie Jamis - I love this graphic - is there away to get a copy?
In my women-centric design course, our cohort participants have been talking a lot about the negative and often invisible consequences of this algorithm towards women, such as: this kind to reach requires people to be on all the time (women experience higher time poverty), the levels of engagements required can also reduce reach for women (or others who are likely to have smaller networks to begin with). So essentially, the algorithm is made to amplify the voices that are already being heard. (Credit: Ideas co-created by folks in my course)
Wait 10 minutes before I edit a typo that I spot the moment I publish? LinkedIn is a cruel master.
Interesting! I appreciate the effort made in making the info easier to digest in the form of an infographic. My initial reaction is around 'so what is this for'. And, 'how can we bring emotional intelligence into the concept of artificially intelligent algorithms?'. I find it useful to remember that engagement is really about human connection. Plus, if you have engagement without genuine connection or results like making sales (or another results metric) then it makes the game all a bit pointless. So yes play the game and know the rules. But play it with heart and be strategic. ❤🎯 Stop and reflect to see if you know Why you're playing the game. My practical question is- how long is this data true for and how often (and why) do algorithms change?
What is the impact of video vs normal content?
I've put this to the test this month! I've been posting content 4x a week and following most of Richard's advice (most= what my available time currently allows me as a solopreneur). Since I started, my reach has jumped by ~200%, and the engagement by around the same percentage as well. I really enjoyed this conversation where Richard did the breakdown of the report with Nemanja Zivkovic: https://www.youtube.com/live/f0F3LOmEnsg?feature=share
So adding a comment of more than 12 words will help to gain traction and visibility of future posts? I found the report highly confusing and this diagram has simplified it immensely. Thanks for sharing.
Question: Reposting content using the function “🔁 Repost” is considered by the algorithm of #linkedIn juts like an original post with my own content?
