So, what do I do instead then? That's the most common response I get when telling other salespeople their connect and instant message approach is killing their chances with their target accounts. I mean, whatever happened to building rapport? #Socialselling isn't new anymore, but it certainly still needs some work when it comes to some basic rules of engagement. So, here are a few Gibbs-style rules to follow: ✅ Follow your target contacts, and wait a couple of days ✅ Like a few of their posts, but not too many at once. ✅ Engage with a few of their comments, without being over the top. ✅ Send them a connection request, with or without a personalised message. ✅ Flirt a little more for a week or longer. ✅ Approach them with a light message, or even better, call them. The key here is to not be too obvious and to space your flirting out over a period of days or weeks. Ensuring you are also posting relevant content they may find interesting will also help build the potential relationship once connected. There are a ton of other rules of engagement, but I'll save those for another day. This seems really nice and easy. I suppose the challenge is whether your targeted audience are actually the ones seeing your posts and are they that active on LinkedIn to even recognize all these efforts. With LinkedIn Algorithm being the final arbitrator of this marketing and sales processes, which seems to work for only the few who then makes a killing selling how to use LinkedIn course and Coaching programs. I think there is good quality educational and informative information that is put out here on LinkedIn but just not helping anyone because we can't all be LinkedIn Algorithm gurus. Do these 4 actions every day to see a big difference. ➊ Post Content By posting daily, you are giving yourself the best chance to be seen by your prospects. It's also giving you the maximum opportunity to attract, nurture and then convert your audience. ➋ Connect With 20 NewTargets If you don't grow your network on LinkedIn you will struggle to grow your sales. Connect with 20 new people every single day to maximise your connection usage. ➌ Engage With 5 Prospects Through Content Like and comment on your prospect's post to create familiarity and try to influence reciprocal engagements. This will make any future engagements more effective. ➍ Send 5 messages Per Day to 1st Connections Start a conversation with 5 of your connections every single day. You won't be able to convert if you don't have conversations. Work up the courage to go and message 5 new people a day and remember, don't pitch straight away. By doing these 4 actions consistently you will elevate all of your activity on LinkedIn whilst also building what's required to sell effectively. “My Team don’t want to sell”   Said one frustrated business owner the other week   All I hear is clickety click of their key boards or they are on their phones they said   The question is   How do you know they are not selling?   What tools are they using and how are you measuring the outcomes of each?   I saw the results from a recent survey that 44% believes that social selling is likely to replace typical BD in the next 4 years.    A lot of people are turning their back on traditional methods and are highly likely to prefer social selling and email marketing than engaging in phone contact.   Are you adapting your mindset and working practices to suit the needs of the workforce and client base? Social media platforms - Linkedin, Tiktok, YouTube all have a place to promote your business. Email marketing deserve a place at the table too. Whilst the team might look like they are titting about and tapping out what sounds like morse code on their phones, consider the impact they are having on thousands of people - being seen and heard, creating that Know Like and Trust factor. This is far more than the 25 or 50 DM calls they might be making a week. My advice is this, embrace the new. Dont be scared of it.
