LinkedIn Creators 2022: Feature Updates All Year Long

LinkedIn creators are in a special sub-category of LinkedIn members because most users are observing (or liking) versus creating and posting original content. As a result, creators have the opportunity to be very visible on the platform.

In 2021, we experienced the advent of the Creator Mode option. And now in 2022, we have witnessed a steady stream of new features for creators. Many of the new features are for creator mode users, but some of them are open to all of us. Sometimes we see LinkedIn introduce a feature to the creator mode community first and then expand afterward.

I have categorized dozens of 2022 feature updates relevant to creators specifically into these core categories: Profile; Followers and Subscribers; New Visibility Options; Productivity; and Analytics. And chances are I may have missed a few. So keep me honest. Let’s get started, shall we?

Profile Enhancements

This year we are enjoying several creator profile enhancements including:

👉 Newsletters 🗞 are more prominent on our profiles with a new subscribe button near the featured section. This image and link are in my profile >

👉 Live link 🔗 in your About summary section which can be visible on your mobile device.

👉 URL in the intro card of your LinkedIn profile. Here is my video post about this new feature.

👉 Embed a profile link on websites, and blogs, or forwarded in an email.

Followers and Subscribers

We all wish for more followers and subscribers. Here’s how LinkedIn helped us in 2022:

👉 Follow buttons now appear in the main feed.

👉 Follow tools were introduced, such as custom code to create a “follow” badge for any website

👉People who invite us to connect will automatically become followers. So logical.

👉If you have a newsletter, you can expect that LinkedIn will now be prompting new followers to subscribe to your content. How fantastic!

👉 In a similar vein, your newsletter will start to appear in the main feed (after a search) in the future. I don't see this yet, but happy to hear about it.

New Visibility Options

We all love ❤️ to expand our creator content options and 2022 did not disappoint.

👉 Audio 📣 events were introduced right out of the gate in 2022! I was a BETA tester, so I had loads of fun doing some shows in the first quarter. Since then, I have backed off from using it. Here is my newsletter article about it. And here is my post about my first test run. Thank you to all who joined me!

👉 Audio events improved over the year. They became available for all users mid-year. AND LinkedIn started to notify followers and connections of the speakers and host of your event. Finally, live captions were added.

FYI: Not sure if I will personally get back to Audio Events and Clubhouse. At this point, I would do it for my clients if requested, but probably not for myself.

👉 The latest creator excitement is around the CAROUSEL 🎠 post feature. With this you can mix text, images, and videos for one powerful post, I do not have this feature now. Do you have it yet? Rollouts are usually very random!

👉 Awesome Article Features: Add hashtags and mentions. And the coolest newest development for articles.... Now we can incorporate SEO best practices by optimizing our article titles, descriptions, and tags. <<<< Check it out

Productivity

Productivity 🛠 is a key to the content creator’s success. Here’s what we saw in 2022.

👉 LinkedIn announced an API and scheduling tools upgrade, giving better access to certain 3rd parties.

👉Reposting. Let’s face it sharing did not work. Reposting is a better option and probably easier for most people. I think of it as a sweet retweet.

👉 LinkedIn introduced video trimming ✂️ on the app. Great to hear, but I personally don't use the app for my videos. I use my iPhone camera and then upload.

👉 LinkedIn seems to think you want to post into a group after a normal post. Resist this temptation unless the content is strategically relevant for both you and the group.

👉 Template option for posts: This is a new content option. I consider this a productivity enhancement more than a content visibility one. Here is the information, and my example in this post.

👉Pin 📌 the best comment to the top of your post. Now you can give visibility to your faves. The bad news? I think this feature is being taken away. What a shame.

👉Heard this: LinkedIn may be adding translated captions generated by machine technology in various languages. This will give much wider access to LinkedIn’s Learning platform.

👉 Various miscellaneous features came along such as Clickable links for posts and Link stickers on the mobile app.

👉 We recently got the option to schedule our posts. Nice. Just remember to be sure to be present for the engagement. Hopefully, people won't go overboard. Personalization and attention to our commenters always work the best.

Analytics

We found more analytics 📊 tools available in 2022, such as.

👉 Improved video 📽 analytics for discovery, engagement, performance, and demographics

👉 Ability to analyze top-performing content. Enhancements include viewing top-performing posts ranked by impression or engagement based on the selected time frame. Also, download the top 50 posts with links to review.

👉 Find 🔎 your new followers in a filter with the selected time range in the audience tab

So, what 2022 creator features did I miss? Which ones are your favorites?

Please let me know and happy holidays

What a great summarization for the "Creator Club" on LinkedIn, Sandra. Thank you for doing a Newsletter (a perfect venue of long-form and long-term content) to pass this along to your followers. I know you and I have been creating content long before Creator Mode ever became a "thing", but it is good to see LinkedIn offer help and support to all those who want to join the 5% of us that "create"!
