I am not usually a five star rater, but this cookbook has earned it. We have been doing nearly four recipes a week since we got the cookbook. I'm an avid home cook and we have tried so many cookbooks and they usually have only three or four recipes you return to. This book has had nearly every recipe become an instant favorite. And there's a huge variety, Indian, Mexican, Italian, comfort food, desserts. And the recipes are very family friendly and are easy to put together. I have three kids under four and it's a blessing to not only have something that can be cooked quickly (or she gives lots of tips for cook or freeze ajead), but also be something the kids like. Our favorite include the enchiladas (so much better than any restaurant), broccoli cheese soup, scones, one pan jambalaya, butter chicken, marinated flank steak. We have gifted this book to several people

    I ordered it . Besides my classic “America Cooks” , this cookbook is so well written. It is like Laura is in the kitchen with me.

    This is the best cookbook I have purchased is at least 10 years! If you keep staples in your pantry- the shopping list isn’t too bad. There are only two of us at home now and the tips and hints on freezing and storage has been helpful to keep us from wasting leftovers. So far we are 100% out of 100% on what we have liked out of this boil! I haven’t had to write “don’t like this one!” on any pages yet!!! Ps. The waffles and homemade syrup are to die for!

    I have followed the Tastes Better From Scratch blog for a few years now. I grew up as a child of the 80's with a microwave cooking mom. Non-boxed mashed potatoes were reserved for holidays. My grandmother was a fantastic from scratch cook--but cooked mostly from memory--so it was tough to get an actual recipe out of her--unless we could find it in a church cookbook somewhere. I love food, I enjoy cooking from scratch, but I also have somewhat picky kids and a full-time job. This cookbook has some tried and true favorites, and mostly quick, wholesome, food with no cans of "cream of" soups or packets of gravy mix. It is the kind of food I want to teach my kids to make, is friendly on our budget, and allows our family to enjoy dinner time together.

    This is probably not a cookbook for a gourmet cook, nor is it for someone looking for low fat, or low carb or whatever the diet du jour is.

    The hardback copy has beautiful photos, and quality paper and the binding lays flat very nicely.

    Don't skip on some of the recipes that seem "too basic". My husband declared the spaghetti sauce a winner and we are not likely to ever buy a jar of sauce again.

    My mostly picky eaters paged through the book when it arrived and were only able to pick out two or three recipes that they would rather me not make --that speaks volumes!

    Why did I give it 4 stars? The recipes are not unique, I was expecting something to impress my family with, something new, something made differently from others, something gourmet 😅. I also thought I was special because I preordered it 😅 but nope, the current price is the same as the preorder.
