Your newsletter signup page is probably costing you subscribers. Here are 10 ways to fix that: ✅ 1. Lead with the VALUE. Don't just say what your newsletter's about, tell readers how it will help them. ✅ 2. Highlight what makes it UNIQUE. Give people a reason to subscribe to yours as opposed to others that cover a similar topic. ✅ 3. Include social proof. Subscriber count, testimonials, notable readers - anything that builds trust. ✅ 4. Keep the form simple. Every extra field = fewer subs. Ask for the minimum info you need. ✅ 5. Put the form at the top. Don't make someone scroll through a novel to sign up. ✅ 6. Use your own domain. It signals you're serious and trustworthy. ✅ 7. Be specific about who it's for. Avoid generic terms like "people." Speak directly to your ideal reader. ✅ 8. Include sample content. Let people see what they're signing up for. ✅ 9. Use single opt-in. Double opt-in creates friction (and costs you subs). ✅ 10. Make it mobile-friendly and fast-loading. It better look good on the platform most people will use to access it. ••• Want feedback on your signup page? Link to it in the comments and I'll give you a suggestion to improve it.
Speaking of newsletters. I'm just not convinced that newsletters will help my business. Personally I am bombarded with newsletters, I read two regularly, batch them, and read them eventually. I read yours Josh Spector and Stephanie Ward's newsletter. I know what I like - quick content, with helpful information. I strive for this, but have a very hard time paring my content down (see this comment). As an entrepreneur, I follow your posts, your newsletter and podcast, but still am not convinced it's worth adding in a newsletter for my biz, plus the effort to grow it. Help! and Thanks. 😀
Clear, practical, and immediately actionable—this is gold for anyone building an audience.
I *think* I checked all ✅ 10... 😅
My web developer used MailChimp on my Wordpress site but I don't know if any more text can be added beyond 'Sign Up For the Family Addiction Coach Email Newsletter'. I had asked for a pop-up but developer went with this instead. Does it need its own page? Too many steps. Since it doesn't pop up, a user must scroll, then notice it, then select it, then complete the form. Only a few people sign up per month. https://familyaddictioncoach.com/
Good. Clear. Actionable. Well done, per usual, Josh!

Good tips Josh! I feel like I've done as many of them as I can (can't really use subscriber count/social proof stuff because the list is currently pretty small so that number isn't very impressive at the moment). I don't have a direct "sample," per se, as in "On the signup page," but I do have an archive of past issues on my main website, and post links to it fairly often on socials. Anyway, here's the signup page as it stands: dougtaylorcc.com/tcen PS: I haven't had an issue in a while...I'm mid-pivot in terms of my focus and target audience, so I'm retooling some things and will be "relaunching" the newsletter soon, so I haven't gotten a chance to touch up this page quite yet. Thank you!
Bad news : I have none of them. Good news : it can only get better 😅
