Product Description
Following the success of our Data Block USB cables launched in 2009, 1st Gen Data Blocker USB Adaptor released in 2013 and 2nd Gen ‘SmartCharge’ Data Blocker released in 2015, we've now launched our 3rd Gen range of models. Many alternatives claim to be 3rd or even 4th gen when they're similar to our 1st or 2nd gen and lacking the feature which truly sets our blocker apart - the fact you can see for yourself that it is physically blocking data.
PortaPow is a UK based company with all our products designed in-house.

The only data blocker you can see working
PortaPow has the only data blocker where the two wires which carry data have been physically removed, so you can be sure it is working. You can see this for yourself just by looking at the male USB-A connector.
SmartCharge
A basic data blocker will send a fixed charging signal, which may result in slower charging. The PortaPow Data Blocker includes our SmartCharge chip which detects and sends the correct signal for your device, compatible with Apple, Universal or Samsung standards. This will prevent slowdown and fix charging issues in some cases - read the reviews for testimonials.
Visible Security
The two data wires have been physically removed from the USB-A connector. You can easily see this through the unique security window cut into the metal.
Laser Etching
'NO DATA' and 'PortaPow' have been laser etched into the USB-A connector for added confidence you've received a genuine PortaPow product.
Compact Size
Measuring just 43x18x11mm (1.7x0.7x0.4"), its a similar size to a cable's USB connector so won't block neighboring sockets. Uses 25% less plastic than previous models for a lower environmental impact.
Zero-waste packaging
The bag the adaptor arrives in can be reused as a no-frills resealable case for the blocker and/or other small parts.
Data Blockers Compared
The creator of the type of hacks that our products defend against has tested our product and many of our rivals. Search for "mg.lol data blocker teardown" to read the verdict.

Which Data Blocker Do I Need?
Check the end of your cable that plugs into a charger (not the end which plugs into your device!) and match it to the image on the left, Most public chargers use a USB-A shape socket, so if your cable is also USB-A then you need our USB-A to A data blocker.
But if your cable is USB-C and you want to charge from a USB-A shape socket, then you need to also convert the shape to charge from public sockets. Our USB-A to C blocker does that.
There are now also many USB-C public chargers, if you'd like to charge from these then you need our USB-C to A blocker or our USB-C to C blocker depending on the shape of your cable's connector. See below for our full range.

This adapter is a fantastic way to use standard mini USB leads with devices running the older GarminOS based on an unknown embedded OS (used as recently as the DriveSmart 50, many still run current maps with a microSD setup). These devices give no choice to simply charge if a data connection is detected and block out the UI in PC Connection mode. Newer Linux-based ones (like DriveSmart 65) now have a prompt and will work as expected with the red adapter in a secure charging scenario, or bare lead for normal use.
Since USB-A luckily tops out at 2.4A under most cases, even the red one will charge modern devices at a sane rate, but for devices with low standby draw that can trickle charge at 500mA this is useful to defeat fast charging protocols for debugging or increased battery life.
The red one should still be safe even if your device uses Qualcomm BatteryKiller 3.0 because of it visibly having no upstream data pins to the charger required to enable fast-charge combinations that are unacceptable for everyday use. In this context this (clear) one is good if you're paranoid, or it's a rare device where the 5v@2.4A provided by the USB BC 1.2 standard is too much .

- Reviewed in the United States on March 13, 2025Size: 1Color: TransparentNumber of Items: 2Verified PurchaseI was going on a trip and knew that I might have to charge my phone and tablet from USB outlets, either at the airport, on the plane, or in the hotel.
I have no idea how frequently juice-jacking (stealing the data in a phone/table/whatever through a charge cable) actually occurs. My guess is not very often, but why take the risk? I looked at several data blockers and, based on the reviews, bought these.
I'm not a very trusting soul, so I also bought a USB cable tester to make sure the data would be blocked when using these. I tested each charge cable that I had, making sure that it would transmit data. I then repeated the test on each cable with one of these data blockers installed. Both of them blocked the data lines on the cables while still allowing the charging lines to connect. Good enough for me-- they went into my travel bag.
In retrospect, I ended up not needing these. I was able to use my plug-in wall wart to charge my phone and tablet so my data was not in any danger. However, I like the option of having these in my travel bag in case I have to plug into some mystery USB jack and not worry. For the price, I consider these essential for travel.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 12, 2024Size: 1Color: TransparentNumber of Items: 1Verified PurchasePortaPow Pure Data Blocker worked great. The unit worked as said in the description. It blocked data surge and only allowed power to get through, thus charging. On my 1st order, I got the wrong item The item was also defective. The unit I 1st ordered was returned and refunded. The 2nd unit I ordered was in working order. I tested the unit by inserting my cell phone into my keyboard synthesizer. Normally when doing so, my cellphone would ask what to do when connected to the keyboard. Since the PortaPow was connected it only charged and no data was being received to my cellphone.
- Reviewed in the United States on February 16, 2025Size: 1Color: TransparentNumber of Items: 2Verified PurchaseThe great thing is that you can see that the two center data pins are missing and not connected. The data protection is visible. If you buy one of the competitors, you would have to use a multimeter to test continuity between the center data contact points of USB.

5.0 out of 5 stars Il migliore
Size: 1Color: RedNumber of Items: 1Verified PurchaseIl prodotto è davvero ben fatto.
