Penny Larke Final.jpg

I wasn't trying to write a fan-fic about my boss. Really.

Why would I? Milo is grouchy, cold, and rude. He's the polar opposite of a bookish boyfriend- well, except for the way he leans against his office doorframe, arms folded across his chest. Or the way he *almost* smiles when we get into an argument. Or the way he always seems to show up when I need him... But other than that, he's the worst.

And he would fire me in a heartbeat if he found out I was the author he'd been so determined to publish.

That's why Milo Brooks can never find out that I've been here all along while he was looking for Penny Larke.

Grumpy boss meets sunshine assistant in this secret identity, slow burn, office rom-com about a pseudonym way out of control.

He was the last man she thought she could trust...

As the right hand to The Mistress, New York City’s most notorious mobster, Charlie learned early on that when the boss points, you shoot—or you’ll end up on the wrong end of the bullet. And she has no reservations about doing what it takes to survive. That is, until the cost becomes the blood of the innocent and she’s forced to decide: Will she become the monster everyone thinks she is? Or will she throw everything away and try to outrun death?
And that death hunts her in the form of disgraced ex-cop-turned hitman, Everett Daniels.

She was the last woman he thought he'd fall for...

Everett regrets the day he turned to The Mistress for help in locating his missing wife. Now trapped in her service, he will do anything to settle his debt. When Charlie goes on the run, Everett sees a chance at freedom that he can’t afford to turn down. Tasked with returning The Mistress’s protégé, Everett has everything to gain. But he can’t shake the question in his head— why would the heir of a criminal throne leave everything behind? Could it be that Charlie isn’t the viper he thought she was? Discovering that answer might cost him everything…

Before you read the synopsis- Be aware, there are spoilers about book 1 in the series. If you haven't read Bearcat yet, AND YOU DON'T WANT SPOILERS, maybe don't read this yet. It’s been a year since Everett watched Charlie die at the hands of Lazlo Cristiani, son of the infamous Cristiani mob family. A year of sleepless nights and alcohol washed nightmares. A year of rebuilding his life, one piece at a time. Now working as a private detective, Everett’s been tasked with proving the Mafia Commissions’ involvement with a recent string of murders. And he’ll start by learning more about Lazlo’s new companion, the alluring and hauntingly familiar woman known only as Esther. But when his investigations dig up the truth about Charlie’s Death, he is once against at odd with the woman he loves, chasing freedom and fighting to stay alive. After outwitting The Mistress, Charlie should be free, right? But when she finds herself out of one web and into another, Charlie has accepted that the only way out of the mafia is outlined in chalk. And, although her boss may have changed, the rules are the same: Do what it takes to stay alive. Keep your head down. Don’t stir up trouble. So long as she does that, nobody gets hurt. And more importantly, Everett Daniels stays alive. But apparently that’s easier said than done. Because when her new boss’s murder sparks a city-wide turf war and Charlie is tasked with removing the competition for good, she’s going to have to stir up a whole lot of trouble if she wants to be free.

Just finished Bearcat and I’m looking forward to starting Scorched. Bearcat grabbed me from the first page and left me hanging at the end looking for more than just an epilogue. At first you feel like you’re headed into the 1920’s flapper era with speakeasies, prohibition and mafia mob rule but it quickly changes to the technology seen in The Jetson’s cartoon series with AI, digital billfolds, flying cars aka speeders and holograms. You hit the ground running and never stop! Bring on Scorched!! I need to know how this story ends.
