This year I took up the mantle as Head of Europe for GPFO, and last week was our European Conference we welcomed family offices from across the globe to consider, debate and reflect on the key issues of the year past and the year ahead. A culmination of our member-driven agenda, the conference was full of food for thought, debate and insights. Opening Keynote: Paul Willmott his talk, titled "Is It Possible to Make Investors Happy?" Panel 1: “AI & Cybersecurity: Opportunity and Risks for the Digital Family Office” - Simon Minder, Dr. Nigel Meir, Ted Cowell, and Patrick MacGloin, discussed best practices for data protection and strategies to safeguard assets in the digital age. Panel 2: “Top Governance Mistakes” - Tim Brown, Taz Sherwani, Hayden Bailey, Paul Fleming and Clare Flanagan, shared insights on the most common governance pitfalls and valuable lessons learned. Panel 3: “Longevity Frontiers: Health, Wealth, and the Future of Aging” - Dr Jas Gill, Liza Osagie-Clouard, MD, Enej Kuscer, Lynne Cox, and Richard Marshall CBE, explored breakthrough technologies and research in longevity, alongside the societal impacts of this dynamic sector. Panel 4: “Climate Change & Sustainability: Macro Perspectives and Practical Solutions” - Richard Nugee CB CVO CBE, Valeria Dinershteyn-Kreeft, CFA, Fiona Clouder, and Sophie Marple, explored these issues from a macro perspective, examining the broader risks and practical solutions available. As well as the ability for Private Wealth to drive change. Panel 5: “The Geopolitical Chessboard: Elections, War, and Populism” - Tor McLaren, Justin Crump, Maria Nicoletta Gaida, bobby vedral, and Audrey Koh, explored how elections, conflict, and populism are shaping today’s complex geopolitical landscape and the potential strategies to navigate it. Closing Endnote: Sir Michael Fallon his talk, titled “New President, Old Britain?”As we turn our sights to 2025, I look forward to continuing our growth across the GPFO platform.
