Lindsey Vonn Finishes 2nd in World Cup Super-G amid Comeback at Age 40
Lindsey Vonn is back on the podium more than five years after she initially announced her retirement from competitive skiing.
Vonn finished in second place, 1.29 seconds back of winner Lara Gut-Behrami of Switzerland, in Sunday's Super-G at the Ski World Cup Finals in Sun Valley, Idaho.

“I usually do better when the pressure’s higher,” Vonn told NBC Sports (h/t Nick Zaccardi). “It’s the last race of the season. I just put it all on the line.
"This is the level that I know I can ski. I know I can even do better than that. It’s been a rough season of people saying that I can’t, that I’m too old, that I’m not good enough anymore. I think I proved everyone wrong.”
The run, which took place in Vonn's final competition of the season, marked her 408th career World Cup start and 138th podium finish, per Olympics.com's Rory Jiwani.
The race also marked Vonn's first podium finish since her return to racing in December 2024.
Vonn had previously announced her retirement in 2019 amid struggles with knee pain. She underwent partial knee replacement surgery in April 2024 and announced her intention to return to racing last November.
Having turned 40 in October, Vonn is now the oldest woman to ever make a Ski World Cup podium.
Vonn next hopes to qualify for and compete at the 2026 Milan-Cortina Olympics, after which she plans to retire a second time, she told the AP's Andrew Dampf. She currently holds three Olympic medals, including a gold and bronze in downhill as well as a bronze in Super-G.
