If you’re in the market for an eight-bedroom, 17-bathroom home with historical significance, you’re in luck: Forbeskindly alerts us that the Carolwood Estate in Holmby Hills, once owned by Walt Disney and partially used as inspiration for Disneyland, is now up for sale. While the actual home that housed the world’s most famous animator is not still standing—current owner Gabriel Brener razed the structure to make room for a 35,000-square-foot mansion—a few fascinating, Disney-created enhancements to the property still stand.

After purchasing the land in 1949, Forbesreports, “Disney built a one-eighth-scale steam railroad, inspired by the ones his company’s animators (Ward Kimball and Ollie Johnston) had implemented on their own properties. . . The train would famously come to be known as the Carolwood Pacific Railroad and it would serve as part of the inspiration to create Disneyland, the first of his eponymous theme parks.” Among the remnants of the train system on the estate is a 90-foot underground tunnel with an ivy-covered stone archway entrance.

Amenities added to the Los Angeles-area property by Brener, who co-owns the Houston Dynamo soccer team, include a swimming pool, putting green, tennis court, a gym, three bars, a wine cellar, a custom movie theater, two safe rooms, and staff quarters. Photos of the estate, listed at $90 million, are available here. And as outrageous as that price tag seems, Forbesreports that neighboring residences have been listed in recent years for up to $225 million.
