I have had a fun week. 📅 I submitted 7 surprise 🎉 LinkedIn recommendations to my connections over the past 7 days. How did this come about? Well, I wrote a post on Leap Day, February 29, and included ideas of things to do on LinkedIn for that day. The first idea from this post was to write a "surprise recommendation" for someone you know. Something funny happened that day. My friend Star Dargin, beat me to it. She sent ME a surprise recommendation. So I returned the favor. After that, I recommended seven (7) more people and it's been a blast. I figured...... "Why not go all week and continue the surprises?" ALL of these seven people are terrific and very accomplished...Here's a summary of who I picked (besides Star as a mutual ) ✅ The President of our NSA New England chapter ✅ Two customers who had previously recommended me ✅ A person I respect in the NBB group, where I teach LinkedIn every month ✅ Two higher education leaders that I respect (and have worked with in some capacity) ✅ Someone I worked with over 15 years ago while at Pitney Bowes. I should have sent it to him SO long ago. Outcomes? Well, I got several very nice messages. Three of the people I recommended haven't added it to their profile yet,.........so I suspect they haven't checked messages yet. That's OK. It will be there waiting for them! Well done, Sandra Long!
Life is best, the more you give. Great Sandra Long!
I call it "LinkedIn Karma" - Give to Get! When you give a LinkedIn recommendation, the person receiving one generally will RETURN the favor. I am surprised how many people do not know about or understand how to review and publish or REQUEST a "re-write" of a recommendation. And unlike Google Reviews or Facebook Reviews - LinkedIn recommendations are always "5-star" meaning that you control them - unlike the other platforms - where you have no control over reviews! I teach the importance of asking for and getting LinkedIn recommendations -and when is the best time to ask for them! Additionally - what makes a GREAT RECOMMENDATION on Linkedin - Follow these simple steps - and even show your clients examples of recent recommendations you have received - to help them understand what you are looking for!
Thanks! It seemed obvious to me to recommend you, and, as always, it is a great reminder and idea! I'm scheduling a surprise recommendation day in the future :)
What an inspiring idea to surprise others with recommendations Sandra Long!
I love this surprise recommendation strategy, Sandra Long! Thank you for the idea!
That's a very positive way of doing business on Linkedin and a kind gesture to help people who have provided a good service, especially from somone such as yourself with a great reputation. I have always had a massive increase in sales when recommended by industry high flyers and experts!
What a fantastic way to spread positivity and appreciation on LinkedIn!
