Why is Domain-Driven Design not so popular among developers? 🤔 Despite recognizing the benefits of DDD in managing complex projects and facilitating communication between technical and non-technical team members, I observe quite limited adoption among developers 😯 Here are a few reasons why I think this happens: ▶️ Complexity and initial learning curve: DDD comes with a steep learning curve for teams not accustomed to analysis of the domain. Concepts like Bounded Context, Ubiquitous Language, and Aggregates can be overwhelming without proper guidance. ▶️ Deep domain knowledge: DDD demands a substantial understanding of the business domain, which requires developers to engage closely with domain experts. Not all developers are inclined to invest their time in acquiring deep domain knowledge, especially when they could be having fun with technologies and applying another methodology called HDD (Hype-Driven Development 😀). ▶️ Misconceptions and misapplications: Some teams attempt to adopt DDD by first diving into its technical aspects (Tactical Domain-Driven Design). This often leads to poorly executed projects that fail to deliver the expected benefits, thereby discouraging further use of DDD. ❗ At the same time, I’m not saying that DDD is beneficial for every project. For simpler applications, the overhead of implementing DDD might not justify the benefits and could lead to postponed releases. ❓ What’s Your attitude toward DDD and how do You usually encourage your colleagues to start using DDD where it’s beneficial?

In addition to data in our program, we often need outside resources. Sometimes, these resources are provided by the end-user, but there are also situations where we have all the resources at the time of development. We need an option to ship them with our program somehow. Rather than merely attaching files to our program, it’s advantageous to include them within its assembly. This ensures they’re always readily available and eliminates the risk of overlooking them. The encapsulation of resources within the program itself constitutes embedded resources. Avoid IHostedService before .NET 8 if you can, because it has a problem... 👇 In .NET versions before 8, the 𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐀𝐬𝐲𝐧𝐜 methods of 𝐈𝐇𝐨𝐬𝐭𝐞𝐝𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞 implementations were called one after the other during application startup. Each StartAsync method had to be finished before the next one could begin, which could delay the startup if any service took a long time to initialize. Imagine you have a task that executes for a couple of minutes. This means the application would not start until that task is finished. .NET 8 introduces a solution with the 𝐒𝐞𝐫𝐯𝐢𝐜𝐞𝐬𝐒𝐭𝐚𝐫𝐭𝐂𝐨𝐧𝐜𝐮𝐫𝐫𝐞𝐧𝐭𝐥𝐲 property in the HostOptions class. With services now starting concurrently, the host’s startup time is minimized to the duration of the slowest service's StartAsync method, rather than being the combined time of all services. Note: Each service begins only after the previous one releases control by reaching its first await statement in the StartAsync method. To allow the next service to start as quickly as possible, ensure that StartAsync is truly asynchronous and avoid any costly operations before the first await. Like the post? It is September 2010... ...Taylor Otwell is probably writing some first lines of Laravel code, which, as a framework, is yet unknown to the world. Symfony is still in its early 1.x versions. Web development is very slowly adapting to PHP 5.3 released a year ago, which as a programming language, is already extremely popular. The Facebook is a main example of a big player using PHP. Although it is still 2 years before this social platform will reach its 1 billionth user. And it is still a year before Facebook releases its HHVM version for PHP. And the front end? A true leader is jQuery, but a month from now, we will see the first-ever version of AngularJS. ReactJS will be released in 3 years, and VueJS a few months later. It is September 2010, and that’s exactly when Accesto - Experts in PHP modernization was born adding another piece to the PHP world. Our company was different back then, but the whole web development was a bit different at that time. But always very much rooted in PHP, the same way as it was for all these 14 years.
