Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Emma's Hero by Carrie Walker

Book: Emma’s Hero

Author: Carrie Walker

Genre: Christian Contemporary Romance

Release Date: April 5, 2024

“God won’t give me more than I can handle? I’m pretty sure He just did.”

After a year of loss and bad choices distance Emma Reynolds from her lifelong beliefs, she finds herself pregnant and alone at a twenty-week ultrasound, hearing the words “incompatible with life.” When her son, Theo, survives birth, she fights to give him the best care possible. As each day passes, Emma’s love for Theo grows—along with her fear of losing him. She can’t understand why God allows her son to suffer.

Seventeen-year-old blogger, Mason Hughes, feels lonely and worthless after his father left their family years ago. When he ignores his mother’s push to “contribute to society,” she volunteers him to help Emma each week. Wishing he’d applied for any other job, Mason has no choice but to grocery shop and practice his rusty social skills with a mother and son he doesn’t know.

Paramedic Ben Sullivan has earned himself the title of “most eligible” bachelor among his friends as they continually set him up on blind dates. While he’d love to avoid the uncomfortable events, his heart can’t help but seek the one thing missing in his life—a marriage like his parents have. If only he could find the woman himself.

As Theo’s tiny life connects them to each other, their loneliness breaks under the love of community, and they will never be the same.

Contempory Christian Romance novels are a favorite genre of mine. I also LOVE reading books from new authors. Emma's Hero by Carrie Walker is the latest in this genre that I have read.

WOW, I can honestly say that my heart was very touched by this storyline. I don't think I have teared up while reading a book as much as I did with this storyline. Emma's story of being a Single Mom with a Special Needs son, Theo, is so heartwarming. I really LOVE the character Mason. His compassion and understanding for Emma and Theo just tugs at my heartstrings. Even though his mom forced him to help Emma and Theo, he has come to LOVE helping on a weekly basis. Paramedic Ben Sullivan does have a desire to marry one day but has never "found the one". He sees Emma at the hospital and decides to pray for her, even without knowing her. The connection between Ben and Emma when they finally meet is so tender and heartfelt. The book captivated me from the very beginning and only got better as I read. The author really did her research, especially in regards to the medical aspect of the book. The storyline is one of Faith, LOVE and Friendships. I am excited to read more books from Carrie Walker in the future. She really is an AMAZING writer and her debut novel is a MUST READ! GREAT BOOK!

More from Carrie

A number of years ago, I walked into a hospital room to visit a young woman I knew whose daughter with semi-lobar holoproscencephaly had been admitted. When I laid my eyes on the beautiful, tiny baby I knew that sweet girl had touched many lives, probably without her mother even knowing. The seed for a story was planted. I’d never written a book before so I ignored it for a long time, but then I witnessed an isolated teen in the school my children went to and that seed of an idea blossomed. Soon, the idea of a baby changing the life of a troubled teen would not leave me alone. And because I believe every book is better with romance, that baby might just have to touch a few other lives 😉 I took writing classes and penned this story over and over until it was right. And now I hand baby Theo to you, and pray he touches your life as well.

Misty M. Beller is one of my favorite authors of all time. I discovered her books about 5yrs ago and truly enjoy each one. Earning the Mountain Man's Trust is Book 3 in the Brothers of Sapphire Ranch series. I have the first 2 books in this series and have been anxious to read this one!

WOW, the storyline grabbed my attention immediately.   Naomi is a strong, single mom who would love to be married. I LOVE how she is very ready to marry when Jonah Coulter asks her to marry him. The Coulter family is very well known and Jonah has been a great friend after her first love ran off. I LOVE that Naomi remains strong when her "first love", Eric,  suddenly returns and wants to marry her. She really spends a lot of time in prayer before making a decision. Jonah and Eric are GREAT characters in this book also! Misty M. Beller has another GREAT book! I highly recommend this to anyone who enjoys Christian Historical Fiction. FANTASTIC BOOK!

Storytelling vs. Historical Authenticity?

I’ve been a fan of historical fiction for as long as I can remember, all the way back to the Mandie books by Lois Gladys Leppard and the Sadie Rose books by Hilda Stahl. Does anyone remember those series?

When I started thinking about my first novel, there was no doubt it would be a Christian Historical Romance set in the west. By my second book in, I had narrowed my focus to frontier life in the Rockies. My happy place!

It can be challenging to write about a time I haven’t experienced and cultures that don’t exist in the same form anymore. I love reading first-hand accounts to help me bring a particular time period to life. I often visit historic forts and talk with those who have studied the time period and setting in greater depth.

Three years ago, My family and I set out on a 28-day epic road trip to tour many of the state and national parks across the country. We spent about half of our time in Wyoming and Montana, exploring Yellowstone and Glacier, and tour historic and ghost towns. We spent more than one night tent camping in primitive camping!

These experiences definitely make it easy for me to slip into that world as I write. The characters come alive in my mind, and I see the story like a movie in my head. Writing Earning the Mountain Man’s Trust was especially fun to write, as we return to the Coulter Ranch. I fell in love with not just Naomi and Eric, but also sweet little Mary Ellen, their one-year-old daughter who Eric meets for the first time in this book.

I pray the story comes to life for readers as much as it has for me! J

Blessings!

Misty

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: The Sleuth of Blackfriars by Michelle Griep

Book: The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane

Author: Michelle Griep

Genre: Historical Christian Fiction

Release Date: April, 2024

Wife. Mother. Homemaker. Detective. Kit Forge wears many hats, and if that’s not enough, she’s partnered with her father to open a new detective agency. It’s hard to be all things to all people, but Kit never shies away from the impossible. Despite her hard work and good intentions, some things fall through the cracks.

Namely, her husband.

But Jackson barely notices. He’s too busy putting out his own fires. As the new chief inspector of a busy London station, he must salvage the disaster left behind by the former police chief—an obstacle made all the harder when the superintendent breathes an ultimatum down his neck.

Against her father’s advice, Kit takes on a case involving a missing child, one in which she and Jackson become a little too emotionally involved. . .and end up endangering their own little girl in the process.

Can Kit and Jackson learn that just because they can say yes doesn’t mean they should?

I am a huge fan of Michelle Griep books, discovering her books a few years ago. The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane is Book 3 in the Blackfriars Lane series. I have read the first 2 books in this series and have been anxiously awaiting the release of this book.

We are back in London and Detective Jackson Forge and Kit Turner are now married and have a young daughter. Kit has opened a new Detective Agency with her father. She has many roles in life, but she LOVES her work and enjoys working her Dad. Jackson also has a new job as Chief Inspector a busy Station. He is working many hours trying to get the Station back on track as the previous inspector left a mess. Life gets even more complicated when Kit decides to investigate a case of a missing child and her and Jackson get too involved. They are putting their daughter in danger by doing so. Will Jackson and Kit solve the case without further harm to their daughter? Will they learn that they can say NO to some things and YES to family?

WOW, this series is just AMAZING! Kit and Jackson are both career focused in this book and not making time for each other. The missing child case brings them together and it also teaches them they can say NO sometimes. The book has some intense moments and really kept me intrigued to keep reading. Suspense, LOVE, and a strong message of Faith are in this book. I HIGHLY recommend this book to any who likes Mystery, Romance, and Historical all in one book! FANTASTIC  BOOK!

Michelle Griep’s been writing since she first discovered blank wall space and Crayolas. She is the Christy Award-winning author of historical romances: A Tale of Two Hearts, The Captured Bride, The Innkeeper’s Daughter, 12 Days at Bleakly Manor, The Captive Heart, Brentwood’s Ward, A Heart Deceived, and Gallimore, but also leaped the historical fence into the realm of contemporary with the zany romantic mystery Out of the Frying Pan.

Oh Inspiration…Wherefore Art Thou?

There are several questions I am asked frequently as an author.

“Hey, how much money do you make?”

“Can you help me get my book published?”

“How come it takes you so long to finish a story?”

But probably the most common query is this: what sorts of things inspire you? Now that is a question I can go on and on about! Don’t panic, though. I’ll be brief.

Story ideas come from every place imaginable. I’ve had plot thoughts from watching kids’ movies or even from eavesdropping at a coffee shop (note: beware what you say in public). TV series are also a favorite of mine, so much so that my latest release, The Sleuth of Blackfriars Lane, is loosely based on one of my all-time favorite PBS series.

Have you seen this show? If not, do yourself a favor and ride that pony. If you have, then you know what I’m talking about. Either way, you should know that, the main character, is a detective in Victorian London—a very sassy yet classy lady. And that’s what struck me light a lightning bolt.

This woman is Kit, the heroine in my Blackfriars series, like right there on the big screen.

So, for book III, I decided I’d let ol’ Kit open her own private investigation agency with the help of her father, a recently retired police sergeant. Of course much intrigue and chaos ensues, just like in my all-time favorite PBS series, bringing the Blackfriars series to a satisfying end.

Inspiration honestly comes from anywhere, so next time you’re rubbing elbows with an author, beware. You just might end up as a character in their next book.
