Tuesday tip: Use LinkedIn to help celebrate to accomplishments of others. LinkedIn recently named my friend and awesome LinkedIn consultant Sandra Long as a LinkedIn Top Voice. She, as much as anyone I know on LinkedIn, is so deserving of this honor. In case you are not familiar with what it takes to be a LinkedIn Top Voice, here's how Sandra describes it in her post below that I've reposted. Diane, those are excellent points on things to avoid when building a presence and sharing content on LinkedIn. I appreciate you highlighting the counterproductive mindsets that can hold people back. Here are a few more I would add to the list: 4. Compare myself to others The tendency to compare our journey or results to others' highlights is an endless trap. It breeds insecurity and self-doubt rather than fostering an authentic personal brand. Focusing inwardly on my own growth and impact is healthier. 5. Spread myself too thin  While being multi-faceted is valuable, trying to cover too many disparate topics out of the gate can dilute the clarity of my personal brand and expertise. It's better to go deep into 1-2 core areas before expanding. 6. Be overly precious with my content Perfectionism can be paralyzing. Rather than endlessly nitpicking and delaying putting my voice out there, adopting a mindset of constant iterative improvement based on sharing more frequently is wiser. The overarching theme is avoiding self-limiting thoughts and habits that keep us playing too small or safe. Building a powerful personal brand requires vulnerability, differentiation, courage and consistency over time. Your original three points smartly captured avoiding static ways of thinking. Here is my secret to building thought leadership in 2024. You want to become a thought leader. You want to get featured in the media. You want to speak at events. This was me last year. I didn't know where to begin. All I knew is that I wanted MORE. I started learning LinkedIn and started creating content. I knew the importance of having an online personal brand but was looking in all the wrong places. I was following the crowd. Instead of breaking through the crowd. After building my community on LinkedIn, I suddenly started to matter. The speaking engagements came The media features came The growth happened Now I am on a mission to help others like me. People get this wrong about thought leadership all the time... It's not about you being the most technical expert on any given subject, it's about you being the person who comes to mind when people think on that subject! If you want to build a presence as a successful thought leader on LinkedIn, you need to: ✅ Be willing to teach people ✅ Always be learning and stay curious ✅ Be seen and engage with others everywhere you can ✅ Show your personality LinkedIn has tools to help you do that, but most people stick only to posting. Comment on other's posts, contribute to collaborative articles, create content consistently, be a part of the conversation everywhere you can. These are the methods to help you get there. Most important of all... BE AUTHENTIC! If you can't do this, then forget about it. 🤷🏻♂️

You don't build a reputation just by posting. Otherwise, everyone posting on LinkedIn would be as famous and successful as Gary Vee. You build a strong reputation by: 1. Delivering consistent value 2. Demonstrating expertise 3. Engaging authentically 4. Building relationships 5. Sharing your story Start with a clear goal Consider what you want to be known for Identify who will benefit the most from your knowledge Write for them.
