Great question Sandra Long! I use LinkedIn and have seen LinkedIn used for networking in various ways, including connecting with old coworkers, finding job candidates, finding a job, making new professional connections, and more. The list goes on and on.

Cute ad! It's a good visual of what Linked In does. I've been more reactive, not proactive. I've met some wonderful people in my space (Leading with Gratitude). I'm inundated with spam and hard sales calls, so it's difficult to parse that out. I do use it to check out people before I have a business call with them; I love that feature.

Ironically the ad reflects my intimidation with trying to network on LinkedIn Sandra Long! There are so many people with such large followings that it is hard to be seen. And so often when you reach out to people, they are so busy and overwhelmed that it is challenging to connect with decision makers.

I think it captures the essence of how most people feel networking, whether in person or online. That right connection can open many doors. It is so very gratifying to watch confidence grow in a group of students when shown how simple tools on LinkedIn can open up worlds to them. The video does a good job showing how simple this can be.

I like the new ad. Anything that helps spread the power of what the platform can do for a person to those who don't realize, I'm all for. It's not complicated. A person just needs to make it a priority in their daily or weekly work process. I am 100% empowered by the access LinkedIn affords me. With consistent, thoughtful commenting, engaging, and sharing, rapport with almost anyone can be established. The platform is a vehicle to be used. It's the user that has the power to leverage it. Like most things, once you understand your way around it, knowing how to make the most of it comes naturally. Of course, I've learned all of this from you, Sandra - your many online sessions, conversations, and, of course, your books!
