If you could buy stock in one artist today and hold that stock for the next 10 years, which artist would you pick?
The same one I picked and went “all in” on 10 years ago…Fat Joe. ❤️ He drives me absolutely insane on a daily basis, but at the end of the day, he’s never, ever led me wrong, and has shown me the true value of staying independent and owning your masters and copyrights.
Pharrel, Donald Glover and Mac Miller Everything Pharrell touches directly or indirectly turns to gold. Donald Glover is the most multi talented artist I can think of and he when he moves to movies…..look out And Mac Miller is my pick for steady growth, specifically because of Cirles and Swimming and both of those albums not reaching critical mass yet, while both of those albums have timeless tracks. Btw, I love this question, fun to answer and read others thoughts. I should point out that I don’t know anything abt the music business.
beyoncé seems like a no-brainer in terms of long-term ROI
If we're talking tokenizing someone, it depends on a number of variables. What utility does the token unlock? Some artists have a lot more to them that can be experienced by a fan. It can be anything beyond just music. This is what could potentially make an artist hold a lot of utility value and after each drop, fan sentiment could influence this artists market value even further. I would bet on any artist who harnesses the power of Web3 first, and not just the ones dropping NFTs through a friend of a hustler, who knows a programmer, that launched yet another NFT marketplace. These artists need to put in the hours of research to finally "get it". Only then can they unlock their true power on Web3. Once harnessed, their community will flourish and so will their token value. No artist mentioned here has harnessed their power on Web3 yet. The first one who does, will be the example. If you're tokenized, it ain't just music anymore..its an artist experience. Were building the engine that makes this all possible.
Kanye
Jack White, maybe? Love what he’s done for the music community with Third Man and will 7 Nation Army ever not be relevant? Agree with all of the Billie Eilish takes, though. Hits a lot of crowds and will surely grow as an artist. I’m from Kentucky, so I’ve been on the Harlow hype train for a long time. The future is looking bright for him. And let’s not kid ourselves here, if Rihanna were to drop any music in the next 10 years… 🤷🏻♂️ I’d also throw stock at A$AP simply b/c of his connection (but don’t get me wrong, that wouldn’t be the only reason, love his music and his activity in the fashion industry as well).
Rihanna, due to her endeavors in the lifestyle + beauty consumable packaged goods market now expanding to Africa and will probably go to the Caribbean. She will probably weave her music into her experiential + retail strategy. I can see her becoming the diasporic BIPOC centered Ulta or Sephora. She currently provides luxury goods, makeup, lingerie/bra, and plans on launching a furniture wing. Would be cool if we could invest in celebrities businesses and earn divindeds.
