Homemade Taco Seasoning Recipe

Did you know itโ€™s SO easy to make taco seasoning? You only need eight ingredients and I bet you have them all in your pantry right now!

This homemade spice mix is only takes a few minutes to make and is a lot more affordable than the taco seasoning packets you can buy at the grocery store. Plus, it tastes so much better.

This taco season has the best flavor and doesnโ€™t contain any preservatives or additives that most grocery store packets use. Once you make your own taco seasoning at home, you will never buy a packet of taco seasoning again.

You can use this spice mixture to make ground beef tacos, turkey tacos, taco salad, taco pasta, burrito bowls, taco soup, and MORE!

Ingredients

Taco seasoning mix is made up of the follow spices. You probably have most of them in your pantry already. Make sure your spices are fresh before using. I like to update my spices every six months.

  • Chili Powderโ€“ the base of the taco seasoning. It has a spicy kick and deep red color.
  • Ground Cuminโ€“ cumin has a slightly nutty flavor with a hint of sweetness and earthiness.
  • Kosher Saltโ€“ salt enhances all of the flavors.
  • Smoked Paprikaโ€“ smoked paprika is my favorite spice and I love using it for taco seasoning. It is slightly sweet and adds the perfect hint of smokiness. You can also use regular paprika.
  • Garlic Powderโ€“ garlic powder is more mild than fresh garlic and enriches the overall flavor.
  • Onion Powderโ€“ onion powder is dehydrated, ground onion and is pretty potent, but great mixed in with the other spices.
  • Dried Oreganoโ€“ a woody, bold herb that is often used in Mexican cooking.
  • Black Pepperโ€“ adds boldness and depth!
  • Spice it up! If you want a spicy taco seasoning mix, add a pinch of crushed red pepper flakes or cayenne pepper.
