Josh Aharonoff, CPA has a unique newsletter format. He writes a daily newsletter for CFOs, but… Each day of the week is themed to a different specific topic, so it’s kind of like a collection of weekly newsletters. People choose to subscribe to each day/theme individually. (Or not.) Do you think that’s a stronger format than a typical daily newsletter?
Niching down. I see how this could work. It's targeting taken to the extreme, but at least you know your audience will be more engaged. Not sure I would do this at the start, though.
Thanks for the shoutout here Josh - I actually got the idea when I sent out a survey to my subscribers asking if they were interested in a daily newsletter (I was doing weekly at the time). A subscriber wrote back saying she would like each day to be a different topic, and the rest is history. While the results seem to be going well (75k+ subscribers and 30% open rate or so), I do always wonder if there are people on my list who don't have an interest in say accounting material, but want to stay onboard with excel materials. We offer people the ability to unsubscribe to any of the 5 topics, but I wonder if people may just unsubscribe from it all if they find a topic is irrelevant 🤔 . Either way...the experience has been amazing and there's nothing that I enjoy more than reading feedback from a reader that they enjoyed the topic. I'm coming up on a 1 year anniversary of this daily newsletter tomorrow!
It is indeed cool. The Venture Capital firm A16Z does the same thing. They have a collection of weekly newsletters based on tech company updates, crypto, sustainable, B2B etc.
Interesting approach. A few things come to mind. 1. The notion that we like to read content that reinforces what we already know (i.e., confirm our smarts). Maybe this is a strategy that taps into that notion, and by doing so, it invites readers to expand into tangential topics (where they might not be the expert) 2. It sets expectations clearly, organized, and structured; I know what I'm going to get each day. (And personally), being a left-brained, former finance professional → it aligns with the minds of finance/accounting. 3. This is possibly a way to capture a slightly wider audience
It does look like audience segmentation. I wonder if it is the same sign-in for all, or if a person can sign up for one and not the other. Do we know which platform is the newsletter on? Totally love the design. great to see that someone made Accounting "sexy" 😂 I did sign up for this newsletter, and I am looking forward to reading it!

10moVery cool concept! The tech seems scary to a non-techy person like me … but I could see that working for my audience of medical providers looking to learn about nutrition. Not everyone wants picky eater tips vs managing high cholesterol … so this gave me something interesting to think about !!
