Cingular Wireless has introduced a streaming music service called MobiRadio, the first music service from partner MobiTV. The MobiRadio service includes 40 music channels programmed by Music Choice and organized by genre such as Urban Rock, Country, Electronica, Reggae, Jazz and Classical.
According to MobiTV, Music Choice will update each channel with new music regularly. Also, the company hopes to include programming from additional providers in the near future.
Currently, the MobiRadio application can be downloaded to only three handsets, but MobiTV says other handsets will be supported before the end of the year.
Cingular is charging $6.99 a month for the service, which is not exclusive to the carrier. Users without a flat-rate data plan also will need to pay additional airtime charges for the minutes used while streaming music.
