Although I attended the U of Minnesota, I’m a woodsy girl at heart. Or maybe I’m an adventurer—having lived and traveled all over the world, including Siberia, Russia as a missionary for eight years.     Where have I been? This is my first book by Susan May Warren and I can’t wait to read more! I devoured One Last Shot in a day. It’s that good! Full of suspense, romance, forgiveness, and second chances, this book kept me quickly swiping my Kindle until the end. And the Alaskan setting made it even more exciting.

    Oaken Fox is a handsome Country Music star carrying a lot of baggage. After a fight with a fan, he heads to Alaska to participate in a survivalist adventure show hoping to rehabilitate his image, but when his guide is injured, the show’s producers convince him to stay on and train with Air One Rescue as part of a reality show.

    EMT Boo Kingston’s a rookie with Air One Rescue tasked with training Oaken. She’s definitely not interested in another handsome hotshot who’ll break her heart like her ex from the reality tv show she was on. But, the more she’s around Oaken, the harder it is to resist him. When several young women go missing in a snow storm and with a potential murderer on the loose, it’ll take all their ingenuity and strength just to stay alive.

    I loved the slow burn romance between Oaken & Boo. They’re both running away from past mistakes and things they need to confront in order to move on. Both let guilt consume them & insist on carrying their burdens alone. I loved how they learned to work together, trust each other, and find forgiveness. And those kisses!

    The Air One Rescue team grabbed my heart. I enjoyed how they all supported each other and welcomed Oaken into their group. Their intense, daring rescues kept me on the edge of my seat. They were so realistically portrayed and described that I felt like I was there right along side them.

    I also loved the way faith and forgiveness were woven throughout the story. Several members of the Air One team including Moose & London offer sage advice I found myself underlining. I also loved the humor. Ketchup wars anyone?

    Highly recommend this intense, swoon worthy, romantic suspense! Now I can’t wait to read the next book in the series.

    Okay, I have my favourite Susan May Warren books, and let’s be honest, how many new ideas can one person come up with?! While she is my favourite author, I expected her new books to start repeating old ideas or the quality to decrease… I can promise you, neither of those problems came to fruition in this book!!! I won’t give away any details, however I may or may not have stayed up until the wee hours finishing this book giving myself less than three hours to sleep before a busy day… it’s THAT good!!! Definitely recommending this book (though be aware, it may consume your every available minute until it’s finished once you get into it).

    Both Boo and Oaken had been badly hurt by social media, Boo's time on the survivor show had been manipulated and deliberately twisted to make her out to be all bad. Oaken had one episode of anger go viral. Learning to trust, to overcome fear and pride and to depend on others and God was a hard fought victory.

But after a helicopter jump goes wrong leaving Oaken searching for help and standing in the middle of the road inadvertently putting him directly in Boo’s path, the two are thrown together and the action begins. Can these two jaded heroes overcome their anger and trust issues and see where God is leading them?

    Susie is masterful at drawing you into the story from the first page! I devoured this book in a day! There’s action, adventure and of course romance so brilliantly woven together for an unput-downable read.
