Thriller, Domestic Thriller, Psychological Thriller

She thought she was the only one lying about her identity. Until she stepped into her sister’s life.

Charlotte Kane has always dreamed of a different life, one where she isn’t living paycheck to paycheck. An existence worlds away from the chaos of her own. Then her estranged mother dies, and Charlotte makes a stunning discovery—she has an identical twin who was given up for adoption.

Acelynn Benedict is polished, successful and seems to have everything Charlotte yearns for—a wealthy, doting family in Savannah, a handsome boyfriend, a great career. She’s just as surprised as Charlotte to learn she has a sister. But when tragedy hits and Charlotte is forced to assume Acelynn’s identity in a desperate moment, she uncovers something altogether darker…

No one in her sister’s life is quite who they seem to be. And every discovery leads Charlotte deeper into a web of deadly secrets. Charlotte may have wanted Acelynn’s life, yet now that she’s living it, she wants out. But if she reveals the truth about herself, it will mean returning to her old life—and she’s already a dead woman there.

Christian Thrillers have become a genre that really intrigues me.  The Other Sister by Jessica R. Patch is the latest book in this genre that I have read.

WHOA, I was captivated by this storyline from the very beginning. The setting of the Book is Chicago. The main characters in the book are Charlotte Kane  and Acelynn Benedict. Charlotte has had a rough life, being in the Foster Care system, often. Her mom recently died and now Charlotte learns she has an Identical Twin Sister who was adopted by an Affluent family. The Sisters decide to meet in Chicago. A tragic incident happens to Acelynn. Charlotte decides to go to Savannah, GA and takes on her sisters identity. Charlotte really begins to learn how deceptive and hiding secrets Acelynn's family is. Charlotte has to make a few decisions for her own safety, tell the truth to Acelynn's family or go back to Chicago.  This is where the Mystery, Intrigue and Suspense really kept me on the edge of my seat.  I can honestly say all the thrills and suspense in this book has me liking Thriller books more and more. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who enjoys Thriller and Mystery with Faith. AMAZING BOOK!

Christian Non-Fiction books are a favorite genre and always encouraging for me. Our Trustworthy God: How Much God Loves You, Joyfully Engages with You, and Trusts You by Sarah K. Howley is the latest in this genre that I have read.

We all go through HIGHs and LOWs of life and many of the LOW times we seem to "wander" from God's plan. I really like that this book addresses how in the midst of the LOW times we really need to be able to seek God's will and TRUST him fully. TRUSTING God in the midst of Tragedy brings us to a point where our relationship with God grows and we begin to "see" God and his intentions are true for our lives. I really like that the author was able to put a lot of thought provoking discussions in this short book. I think it would be a GREAT book for a small group study or a study done on our own. I HIGHLY recommend this book to anyone who needs encouragement in when to TRUST God! GREAT BOOK!

More from Sarah

Our Trustworthy God is the result of years of seeking. I knew I was supposed to trust God… but. I struggled with the buts of trusting God. There are too many to name, and they usually start with “why?” Some examples are when good people have bad things happen to them, why? When someone we love has died too soon, when our best friend gets cancer, when a hurricane strikes and whole towns are lost. For me, it was cancer in the family and even starting my own business. I couldn’t really understand, or “feel” that everything was working out for my good. Trusting God wasn’t exactly an on-command reflex when I thought of these things. It was easier to wonder where God was rather than trust that he IS and will always be here.

But I wanted more than to believe he was here, I wanted to know deeply that God was working for my good, even when all I saw was destruction and evil. So, I spent a year dedicated to digging in and seeking to understand what trusting God really means. I wanted to know how trustworthy God is, all the time. I didn’t want that knowledge to remain in my head, but I wanted it in my heart. I wanted it to be the automatic reflex when bad things happen that I knew beyond a shadow of a doubt that God was in that situation and working for my good.

What I found surprised me. Don’t misunderstand, more than ever before, I know God IS with me in every circumstance and he IS working for my well-being. He loves me deeply. What surprised me was that God trusts me as well and his power is unlike anything I could imagine.

A deep discussion of relationship and trusting God is what came out of that search to understand how I could trust the unseen God in an evil world, and I had to share it. Because I know my God is good and he is trustworthy. He is working for your good. He loves you, joyfully engages with you, and he trusts you.

Celebrate Lit Blog Tour: Embergold by Rachelle Nelson

Book: Embergold

Author: Rachelle Nelson

Genre: YA Fantasy

Release date: March 18, 2025

Fire dreamed of water, but the first sip would be its last.

Gilde has spent her life isolated in the wild marshlands, a place too wet for the dragon to go. She’s safe there, according to her father. So why is he asking her to leave with him now that she has come of age? There is more to Gilde’s family than she knows, and debts need to be paid.

Betrayed and shattered, she wakes in a crumbling mountain castle with the beast of her nightmares. Except this dragon speaks like a man and reads books. His kindness confuses her and opens a forgotten longing in her heart, all while Gilde plans her escape from a mountain full of secrets.

This place can unveil her past and why she was sacrificed to the beast —truths that may put both their lives in danger if they can’t learn to trust each other. But how can Gilde ever trust again? Especially after she discovers what dragons truly are.

Christian Young Adult Fiction is always an intriguing genre. Embergold by Rachelle Nelson is the latest book in this genre that I have read.

I really enjoy books that are a take on Fairy Tales and this book really felt like a Beauty and Beast storyline. The book started slow and I almost didn't catch onto the storyline. Chapter 2 the storyline became a little clearer and I started to enjoy the book. Gilde is the main character in this book and this book is her journey to discovering herself. Her life has been filled with trials and upheavals and she is determined to overcome. Wil is the talking dragon that she meets along her journey. I really LOVE how Wil gives her the encouragement to move forward in life. The author touches on some real life issues that Young Adult and Teens experience in society these days. I really felt that the way the topics of Anxiety, Health Issues, Domestic Violence and Alcohol use are done is a respectful manner. There are many twists and turns in this book and there is also romance. Althought it took me some time to get the gist of the story, I would recommend this book to Young Adults who like "fairy tale" stories. GOOD BOOK!

Rachelle Nelson grew up reading fantasy novels and getting her clothes muddy in the pine forests of Idaho. These days, she still loves hiking through forests and libraries, though she’s a bit less fond of mud. Her debut novel, Sky of Seven Colors, released through Enclave Publishing, and won both the Carol Award and Christy Award. Rachelle doesn’t write true stories, but she does write about truth. When she’s not doing that, she sings in a band with her husband who makes her happier than should be legal. If you like good food and honest conversations, you’re her favorite kind of person.

More from Rachelle

For the past decade or so, I have been a volunteer youth leader for teen groups. Some of my favorite memories have come from that position. Camp pranks, hilarious games involving edible mealworms, scavenger hunts, singing together at the top of our lungs, and speaking life into the lives of young women. When a girl sees herself through the eyes of Jesus, everything changes.

Some of my hardest moments have come from being a youth leader, too. There’s a kind of hurt that happens when we watch someone suffer, and we cannot take the suffering away. I have cried tears with teens who have been wounded by betrayal, carelessness, and abandonment. Those wounds go deeper when they come from a parent.

The truth is, God is the only perfect father, and we’re meant to be parented by Him. Learning to trust Him is a process, even if we had a pretty great (if imperfect) example of an earthly dad. But we live in a fatherless generation, when so many have experienced separation and pain in their family from divorce, or addiction, or generational cycles of pain. I’ve seen what that kind of pain can do to a heart, and how trusting others becomes almost impossible.

Almost.

Embergold is a story about betrayal and abandonment. It’s about two young people who never expected to find kindness in a harsh world. It’s about the healing of hearts.

I wrote it for myself, to remember what is possible. I wrote it for the young people I have loved. And for the parents who are still recovering from their childhoods.

Sin and brokenness happen in community. But, the amazing thing is, God designed the healing to happen in community too, among people. We need each other.

JustRead Tours Blog Tour: Waylaid by Jerusha Agen

Waylaid JustRead Blog Tour

Welcome to the Blog Tour for Waylaid by Jerusha Agen, hosted by JustRead Publicity Tours!

Waylaid

Title: Waylaid
Series:
Windy City Westons #1
Author:
Jerusha Agen
Publisher:
SDG Words, LLC
Release Date:
March 27, 2025
Genre:
Christian Romantic Suspense

Someone wants to kill her. She wants the killer to finish the job.

Spring Weston will do anything to rise in the ranks of pro cycling and prove she isn’t the one failure of the five Weston siblings. Anything except cheat. When she learns of doping on her cycling team, she’s determined to uncover the truth. But she can’t if she’s dead.

Sergeant Torin Cotter may not be the hero the public thinks he is, but he recognizes fear when he sees it. When he takes over the investigation of the collision that landed Spring in the hospital, he’s compelled to protect her from whatever danger she’s in, even though he knows he might fail. Again.

Spring’s faith in God isn’t enough to help her face the living nightmare she awakened to after the accident. But neither she nor the handsome sergeant see the greater threat that’s coming until it’s too late.

If they’re going to survive, Spring and Torin will not only have to confront their worst fears—they’ll have to find a reason to live.

Waylaid is the first installment in the thrilling Windy City Westons series that features five siblings who encounter danger and love in the city of Chicago.

Christian Romance Suspense is an intriguing genre. Waylaid by Jerusha Agen is Book 1 in the Windy City Westons series. I have read many of Jerusha Agen books and I am intrigued by this new series.

I have to say that one of the reasons I am very intrigued by this series is that it is set in Chicago. I am a Born, Raised and still live in Chicago area girl! I also like that the series will feature 5 Siblings and their encounters of LOVE and Danger in the City of Chicago.

WOW, this series certainly started off with an intriguing storyline. The 2 main characters in this book are Spring Weston and Sergeant Torin Cotter. Spring LOVES participating in the Pro Cycling circuit and wants to go further up the ranks. Spring wants to be honest in her racing, so when she discovers some of the other racers are part of a "doping circle", she wants to know the truth. Spring ends up in the Hospital due to a vehicle hitting her while out Cycling. The investigator assigned to her case is Sergeant Torin Cotter. He gets to know Spring and her situation and wants to protect her from further danger. I was truly in awe of Spring and Torin, as they grew a relationship outside of the Investigation. Spring's faith in God was struggling due to everything going on in life and the Cycling Community. Torin is struggling with life and PTSD due to seeing his wife being killed right in front of him. I LOVE that they both begin to rely on God to help them through the struggles and God uplifts them and the relationship. Torin never thought he could LOVE again and Spring definitely changed things. The book has many twists and turns, which kept me on the edge of my seat. The book is one of Mystery, Faith and LOVE. GREAT BOOK!
