Review: Sunburst by Susan May Warren

I loved this story and did not want it to end. It is book two in the series and could probably be enjoyed on its own, especially during the sequences that take place in Africa. When the focus moves to Alaska, characters and situations from book one, Sunrise, are woven into the story, as well. This underlying Alaskan storyline continues from book one, through a bit of book two, and looks like it will conclude in book three.

The Nigerian family and wedding scenes were full of heart, emotion, and some sweetly humorous moments! I loved the way Noemi’s family brought her back into their fold and the enthusiasm with which they planned and held the wedding.

The chemistry between Ranger and Noemi was simply beautiful, while also highlighting that these two both carried broken hearts from their past time together. There were flashbacks to show what had happened between the two and help the reader feel an even deeper connection between them. And just as I was thinking that all these two would have to overcome were decisions made in the past, the author threw in a great twist that I didn’t see coming! It was perfect and I love when an author can surprise me with something like this.

I loved this book from start to finish and I definitely agree with Dodge and Ranger that Nigerian weddings count! I loved the way that played out.

ABOUT THE BOOK

When former Navy SEAL and lifelong bachelor Ranger Kingston is called upon to take part in a rescue mission to save his brother Colt, who has been kidnapped by terrorists in Nigeria, he is shocked to find among the hostages a woman he knows and could never forget.

Noemi Sutton was attempting to return a young girl to her family in Boko Haram territory when she and the girl found themselves taken hostage, along with several others.

And while Ranger Kingston may be able to get the hostages away from their captors, he’ll need Noemi’s help if he ever hopes to get out of Nigeria alive.

Her solution? Pose as husband and wife. But when her uncle discovers the union, he insists on a traditional Nigerian wedding–binding Noemi to a man destined to break her heart. Worse, she’s discovered the real reason she was kidnapped, and anyone around her is bound to be caught in the cross fire. Including her so-called new husband.

She’ll need to figure out a way to leave the man she loves if she wants to save his life.
