An exercise to try: Write 10 sentences that start with "I want..." Write 10 related sentences that start with "I don't want..." You'll learn a lot. Here are the sentences I came up with: 1. I want people who read my tweets to be able to use them to improve something. I don't just want them to say, "That's interesting." 2. I want to learn more from my newsletter than the people who read it do. I don't want the most valuable part of my newsletter to be the number of subscribers I have. 3. I want people to buy my products because they're good. I don't want people only to buy them because I'm good at selling them. 4. I want to have the time to work on what I want to work on. I don't want to spend all my time working on what others want me to work on. 5. I want my writing to be clear and understood. I don't want my writing to be clever and misunderstood. 6. I want my audience to succeed so I can learn as much from them as they do from me. I don't want my audience to believe they have nothing of value to share. 7. I want clients who want to accomplish their goals as much as I want them to accomplish their goals. I don't want clients looking for shortcuts. 8. I want to create things that provide the most possible value per word. I don't want to waste people's time. 9. I want to work with people who want to invest in and bet on themselves. I don't want to work with people who assume the only way to invest is with money. 10. I want you to try this exercise. I don't want you to assume it won't help you. YOUR TURN: What's something you want and don't want?
OMG, I love no. 2.
Great exercise Josh. Thanks for sharing
This is great Josh!
I want to work with clients who are truly invested in helping their people succeed and thrive. I don't want to work with clients who want to squeeze out as much as they can out their people under the guise of "efficiency" and "productivity".
🙌🙌
I want people to find as much joy in reading my newsletter as I have in writing it. I don’t want them to groan when they see my name in their inbox.
The original meaning of 'want' is lack. It's used in the sense of 'to be found wanting.' Best route to happiness is to understand that the universe doesn't give a rat's about what you want ... 😍 On a more serious and helpful note, using 'want' in a goal or intention statement doesn't produce much energy because you already have it. You already have a state of wanting. We usually use something like, 'mind is open, seeing opportunity, action towards it is easy and smooth '. This brings about more movement than lists of what someone is lacking.
Want more clients from your content? I'll show you how.
