HOW TO KEEP YOUR INBOX AT ZERO (Even if you email yourself tasks like I do!) Stressed by the ever-growing “to do’s” crowding your email? Here’s how to keep emailing yourself tasks AND have a clean inbox… 👇 💻 1. Identify types of emails you send to yourself & get from others (tasks, ideas, emails to reply to, things you want to do today, receipts) 📩 2. Turn each category into a specific email alias like… To dos/Tasks = tasks@yourcompany.com Ideas = ideas@yourcompany.com Emails to reply = toreply@yourcompany.com Things to do today = today@yourcompany.com Receipts = receipts@yourcompany.com, etc. (FYI, an alias is a dummy address that when sent, goes to your main email!) 📂 3. For each alias, set up filters in your email system (Google, Outlook, etc.) so that emails sent to it get sorted to a specific folder (or label), get marked as read, and skip your inbox. 📬 4. Now… when you email yourself a task - it’ll go neatly into your “Tasks” folder and keep your inbox tidy! Same with sending receipts, banking ideas, tagging emails for reply, and more. Voila! 🙌 This A-HA system has kept me at Inbox Zero for the last 4+ MONTHS! And I didn’t realize how anxious it was making me to be staring at my To Do list in my inbox constantly. Now that it’s out of sight, but saved, I have so much more peace. Yep, I’m still a monster about emailing myself tasks, BUT now my systems plays to how my brain works and lets me enjoy the peace of a clean inbox. • What do you think? • Will you try this, or your own spin? • Or what's your favorite way to keep from drowning in emails!? ________ Hey - I’m Annie. Nice suggestion - I’m gonna share it in my newsletter some time soon.
Here thanks to Josh Spector and implementing this asap!! Thanks Annie
Brilliant!!
This is a great tip. Maybe this would work with regular gmail account using the plus method? To dos/Tasks = youremail+tasks@gmail.com Ideas = youremail+ideas@gmail.com Emails to reply = youremail+ideas@gmail.com Things to do today = youremail+today@gmail.com Receipts = youremail+receipts@gmail.com Newsletters = youremail+subs@gmail.com Dots work also. https://gmail.googleblog.com/2008/03/2-hidden-ways-to-get-more-from-your.html What do you think is a next step to automate this? (I use todoist to track my todo list)
Saving for later - great plan!
Great advice, Annie!
YES! I love this Annie Franceschi!!! I have a similar strategy using different email accounts for different "parts I play" or roles in my life. It helps keep different types of communication or tasks compartmentalized.
