BeatStars Says It Has Paid $200 Million to Creators Since 2008

Music by BeatStars producers have appeared in songs by artists including Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Drake, Future, Lil Nas X, Trippie Redd and 24KGoldn.

On Wednesday (June 1), leading sound marketplace BeatStars announced that it has now paid $200 million to creators since its founding.

Musical offerings by BeatStars’ producers have appeared in hit songs by mainstream artists including Ariana Grande, Cardi B, Drake, Future, Lil Nas X, Trippie Redd and 24KGoldn. Additional BeatStars tracks have been featured in campaigns for brands such as the NBA, Nike, Gatorade, Adidas and The Kansas City Chiefs.

Since it was launched by Abe Batshon in 2008, BeatStars has served as a premier platform to buy and sell beats, enabling music producers to license, sell and give away instrumentals. News of the $200 million milestone comes a little less than three years after the company announced it had paid out a total of $50 million to creators since its founding, indicating the platform has experienced rapid growth during that timeframe.

In a Facebook video shared in July, founder Batshon spoke on the company’s expansion, saying, “Anyone that owns a stake in the intellectual property of a song that they’ve helped create can now collect on publishing administration royalties right on BeatStars, in partnership with our homies over at Sony Music Publishing, helping our creators finally be able to collect the money that they are owed from their publishing ownership.”

He went on, “If you created something in the music space, you are entitled to the publishing share of all of these songs when they are commercialized around the world.”

Outside of its marketplace, BeatStars offers technology and tools including BeatStars Studio, BeatStars Promote, Beat ID, BeatStars Distribution, and BeatStars Publishing — the latter in partnership with Sony Music Publishing in a deal that was announced last July — to help its community of creators market their tracks and put them in control of their careers and intellectual property.

BeatStars prides itself on allowing creators to build businesses, get paid and collaborate with other artists internationally. BeatStars is currently home to 3 million active members based in more than 100 countries.
