APD ALSO ANNOUNCED A SIX POSSIBLE SHOOTING TODAY. ANGEL SAUCEDO JOINS US LIVE WITH NEWS OF THAT SUSPECT IN CUSTODY. WELL, ALBUQUERQUE POLICE, THAT SHOOTING HAPPENED AT THE HOME OF REPRESENTATIVE JAVIER MARTINEZ. THEY ALSO SAY IT HAPPENED IN EARLY DECEMBER. AND AT THAT NEWS CONFERENCE THAT WE WERE AT EARLIER TODAY, THEY ANNOUNCED THEY HAVE A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY WHO IS CONNECTED WITH ONE OF THESE SHOOTINGS. NOW THEY, DON’T KNOW WHICH SHOOTING OR THEY DIDN’T SPECIFY WHICH SHOOTING. AND THEY ALSO DIDN’T SPECIFY IF THAT PERSON WHO WAS ARRESTED IS CONNECTED WITH MULTIPLE SHOOTINGS. BUT THEY DID SAY THAT THEY HAVE A IN CUSTODY AS WELL, THAT THERE IS A SUSPECT IN CUSTODY IS VERY IMPORTANT FOR OUR CITY AND FOR OUR ELECTED OFFICIALS AND FRANKLY, FOR OUR LOCAL DEMOCRACY.       Police have one in custody related to shootings of the homes and offices of elected leaders
      Albuquerque police say they have detained a suspect in relation to the shootings of the homes and offices of elected leaders. Police made the announcement during a press conference on Monday. The name of the suspect has not been named by police. The shootings of the homes and offices of elected officials began in December 2022.The first shooting of the home of an elected official happened at the home of Bernalillo County Commissioner Adriann Barboa on Dec. 4, 2022. Police said eight rounds were shot at the home in southeast Albuquerque that afternoon.The second shooting happened on Dec. 11, 2022, at the home of former Bernalillo County Commissioner Debbie O'Malley in the north valley. Linda Lopez in southwest Albuquerque. Police say eight shots were fired at the home just after midnight.In a news conference on Thursday afternoon, Mayor Tim Keller announced a fourth elected official had their office shot at. Keller said the office of State Sen. Moe Maestas was shot at on Thursday morning.APD detectives are learning about a fifth shooting that may be tied to the shootings involving elected officials. Several shots were reported in December at the former campaign office of now-Attorney General Raul Torrez.Torrez and workers had already moved out of the office space on Park Avenue SW. The shooting happened on Dec. 10, according to APD.A sixth shooting was reported on Monday. Albuquerque police say the home belongs to State House Speaker-elect Javier Martinez. Speaker-elect Martinez did an inspection of his home after earlier reports of the shooting involving the homes of other elected officials. Police say Speaker-elect Martinez found damage to his home from gunfire that was heard in December near his home. Police say they located evidence of a shooting. “Our detectives are working hard to get to the bottom of these shootings,” APD Chief Harold Medina said. “We have identified potential connections between some of the shootings, and detectives are pursuing every possible lead.”Police say homes and offices were damaged. No injuries were reported in the shootings.
